We live two miles from McCormick's Creek State Park and Canyon Inn is located inside the park. We hosted a 50th Anniversary Peace Corps Reunion in the park September 20-23, 2013, and could not have been happier with the time we spent there. The Inn provided comfort, outstanding food, excellent staff to attend to our needs, and the Park itself provided all who came (from all over the United States) with a wonderful idea of what is very special about Southern Indiana. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and woodsy; the buffet dinners we enjoyed were excellent, and the special things we asked for, such as a meal which included West African foods, a picnic in the Park, a special gathering room with a view and dining experiences that were special, were provided with great flair and appeal. All left with a great respect for our state park system.
Our group of 33 enjoyed the privacy of a special meeting room for the three days of our reunion; not only did we have the room available for these days, it was set up in such a way that we could show slides and dvd's of the past using the technical equipment provided by the Inn; the cost of this was minimal. Since Indiana State Parks recently received liquor licenses. we were also able to provide a cash bar in our special room for those who wished wine or beer. Again, the staff provided were friendly, courteous, and very helpful. Our evening meals in the dining room were made more special by our being able to reserve a portion of the porch dining area, (you must see this to totally understand how really special it is), linen tablecloths and tables set, a view of the woods next to the Inn, and all at a minimal cost. And the African dishes were added to the buffet bar so that other guests could enjoy them as well.
Needless to say we have received raves from our friends over the setting, the rooms, the staff, the food, and all of the special amenities that were provided by our group coordinator, Donna Kay, the food service people headed by George Williams and chef Emily Melton (her ground nut stew was the best we have ever eaten!!!), and assistant general manager Randy Rhine.
We could not have been more pleased with the results of our reunion.
