We live two miles from McCormick's Creek State Park and Canyon Inn is located inside the park. We hosted a 50th Anniversary Peace Corps Reunion in the park September 20-23, 2013, and could not have been happier with the time we spent there. The Inn provided comfort, outstanding food, excellent staff to attend to our needs, and the Park itself provided all who came (from all over the United States) with a wonderful idea of what is very special about Southern Indiana. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and woodsy; the buffet dinners we enjoyed were excellent, and the special things we asked for, such as a meal which included West African foods, a picnic in the Park, a special gathering room with a view and dining experiences that were special, were provided with great flair and appeal. All left with a great respect for our state park system.
Our group of 33 enjoyed the privacy of a special meeting room for the three days of our reunion; not only did we have the room available for these days, it was set up in such a way that we could show slides and dvd's of the past using the technical equipment provided by the Inn; the cost of this was minimal. Since Indiana State Parks recently received liquor licenses. we were also able to provide a cash bar in our special room for those who wished wine or beer. Again, the staff provided were friendly, courteous, and very helpful. Our evening meals in the dining room were made more special by our being able to reserve a portion of the porch dining area, (you must see this to totally understand how really special it is), linen tablecloths and tables set, a view of the woods next to the Inn, and all at a minimal cost. And the African dishes were added to the buffet bar so that other guests could enjoy them as well.
Needless to say we have received raves from our friends over the setting, the rooms, the staff, the food, and all of the special amenities that were provided by our group coordinator, Donna Kay, the food service people headed by George Williams and chef Emily Melton (her ground nut stew was the best we have ever eaten!!!), and assistant general manager Randy Rhine.
We could not have been more pleased with the results of our reunion.

We spent two nights in this peaceful hotel. We were trying to save money so we got a room with two twin beds. It was clean, nice and comfotable. The bathroom was small but had everything we needed (shower, no tub) which we actually liked better than a tub. We were on the second floor and had a lovely view of the green areas. The restaurant is a bird lover's paradise: It has a section that is also an observation room. The lobby is inviting and peaceful, just like the rest of the hotel.

Indiana State parks and Inn's are always on the list for a great get away. If you enjoy the outdoors, Have lots of chairs and private areas where you can just chill out. The pool is really good to keep the youngsters entertained. Rooms in the Inn are a little small and a little aged, but nice and clean. Nice place to eat inside the lodge as well. Nice friendly staff.

Room Tip: Some of the shower doors are rather small .

Restful and lovely for nature lovers. Canyon Inn is located in McCormick's Creek State Park near Spencer, Indiana. We stayed in a room with King bed in one of the renovated sections of the inn (vs. the "historic" sections). Our room was simple but comfortable - spacious and immaculately clean - with a view of treetops and thick foliage.

You must eat in the glassed-in porch section of the dining room; you will have a prime view of the many birds (& acrobatic squirrels) visiting the many bird feeders just outside. We saw many finches, jays, cardinals, tufted titmouse, and red breasted grosbeaks. The lounge area of the lodge is also lovely - spacious and calm with lots of deep leather couches and nature-inspired touches.

Hoosier hospitality was on full display during our visit - staff were especially friendly and attentive.

Canyon Inn, in McCormick Creek State Park, was a great place to stay. It is beautiful and does a great job of combining the rich experiences of the past with modern conveniences. The food is great! It's not fancy, but it is delicious quality Midwestern comfort food with thick cuts of meat, hearty vegetables, and a really good salad/soup bar. The surrounding woods are beautiful with hiking trails and a waterfall. There is also swimming and horseback riding available. If you love nature, you will love the grounds, birds, and wildlife. We thoroughly enjoyed our entire time there, even during the time that it was raining.

This was our first trip to McCormick's Creek to celebrate our birthdays. We really enjoyed the hiking, even though it rained and we didn't get to go as much as we wanted to. The restaurant was good, nothing fancy and a little overpriced for what you get.

We had a room with a Queen sized bed....the room was very small and no comfortable chairs to sit in. The mattress was VERY hard and after hiking and horseback riding we were unable to get a restful sleep because of it. It rained both days we were there and the Satellite TV went out for a few minutes one night, not their fault. I didn't have any trouble with the Wi-Fi, it may have been a little slow....but we were there to get away so it didn't mater.

The room, restaurant and the whole Inn were very clean and the service is very good in all areas. The staff was all very friendly.

We did really enjoy the horseback riding but alas....it did start sprinkling again at the very end but the ride was good and I thought very reasonably priced.

We are on a quest to visit all the State Park Inns in Indiana, we started with Clifty Falls last year and that kind of spoiled us; it would be tough to beat the view of the Ohio River.

McCormick's Creek is very nice and we did really enjoy our stay....just wish for at least one comfy chair in the room and a more comfortable mattress to sleep on.

Canyon Inn has been a family favorite for several years and we were not disappointed during our recent visit. The lounge is a place for families and friends to gather and play cards, do puzzles, chat, etc. Our room was spacious and apportioned in a nature/outdoors motif. The room was clean with plenty of blankets.

Room Tip: I would recommend not to stay in Room 217. It is at the intersection of the elevator, public restro...
