We had the unusual opportunity to get to know this hotel restaurant in South Bend, Indiana, pretty well, because we spent several days in the city and ate dinner at Bistro 933 every single night! So this review is based on multiple occasions in the dining room. We stayed at the Inn at St. Mary’s next door to the Hilton Garden Inn and received a 10 percent discount on the dining bill, which was a nice touch. We were really not interested in running around to different places each night, so we just kept going back to Bistro 933.
The best thing about the menu is that it features several “small plates” as well as larger offerings. Let’s face it, few of us really need a big dinner in the evening. A salad and a “small plate” did the trick.
Our favorite salads were The Berg, with iceberg lettuce, and the Strawberry Bibb Roll, with Bibb lettuce, candied walnuts, and strawberries. Yum!
Of the small plates, these were winners:
• Crispy Beef Short Rib Ravioli, cracker-like ravioli stuffed with beef.
• New England Crab Cakes, two generous crabcakes with remoulade sauce.
• Philly Cheesesteak Quesadilla, five beef-stuffed little quesadillas.
A salad and one of these small plates made an excellent dinner.
I cannot say enough about the outstanding service. Both Ingrid and Jenny were friendly, welcoming, and gracious, and made sure the food came out as soon as possible (always an important point!). After the second night, we felt like we were having dinner with old friends rather than dining in a hotel.
Dining at Bistro 933 was a pleasant highlight of our trip to South Bend.
