Stayed here last week during a business trip. It is right next to the college football HOF, which is okay. There are a couple bars in walking distance. The rooms are old, but just fine. The staff is polite as well.

Stayed one night with our Hilton honors miles and checked in at mid-day. The room was ready and the staff was polite and reminded me that the hotel was built in 1981. The size of the bathroom made that very real. The mattress was very soft and the room size was adequate. There were many hockey families in town and they were noisy. The wired internet was indeed slow as some have mentioned and hopefully, the updating the hotel plans will improve that. The ice machine was broken on our floor and had a sign that said to go to level 3, 4 or 5. Parking is a premium in that hotel as there are no on-street parking available and I thought $9 a night was fair. We've paid $40 a night at other Hiltons but this is South Bend Indiana. There was no fridge in the room so we couldn't store our water and with the ice machine broken, was a real hassle keeping our drinks cold. I hope they put a fridge in each room during their remodel. We used the iron and ironing board that was included in the room as well. The compressor for the a/c unit was loud when it ran and woke me up several times overnight. The water saver shower head was pathetic. My shower would have been longer but every time I moved the handle for hot water, the shower head would shut off. That was the coldest shower I've had in years and had to hurry because I was freezing. The street noise is loud as someone else mentioned. We will probably not return to this Hilton and choose instead one of the newer ones in Mishawaka instead. Good luck with the remodel, it is definitely due.

Spent 3 nights , two of which was a bit sleepless due to rude neighbors across hall. Reported it the first night but still noisy the next night. Was out and about all the first day, came back at 4 pm to freshen up for dinner and our room had not been touched by housekeeping. They did come right up, but it was awkward. Went down to their small restaurant for coffee while I waited on my room but they had just closed. Thanks to a wonderful angel Carla, she got me a pot of coffee and told me to sit there as long as I needed. It made an innoying situation helped with caffeine. The next day I also went out all day and came back around 2:30 pm and again the room was not done. So I had to sit in lobby with no acsess to coffee till the room was done. The front desk was apoligetic but said guests that stay more then one night can have up til 5 pm to have their room done....5pm!! You have to pay an excessive 9.00 a night for parking but you have no chose due to the lack of street parking. For some reason our first rate per night was increases $10.00 ? When you enter the lobby from the underground garage it has a bad smokey smell that drifts into the elevator area of lobby. The outside of garage should also be non-smoking! The business center needs to be updated. Internet service is very slow. Breakfast room service was good. Bedding very comfortable. Room clean. Hotel staff wonderful! Would stay here again due to the central location. Great resturants very close by.

We were booked through a group affiliated with youth hockey. Great value for all of the inclusions with the booking. Minor functional problem with the toilet but we did make the decision to deal with it instead of changing rooms due to our occupancy need. Wireless not being free in rooms seems to be a Hilton decision, as I also stayed in the Times Square New York Doubletree a month ago and found the same policy. The staff was very patient and seemed to appropriately handle situations that would be inconsiderate of ALL occupants at the hotel. Breakfast buffet was top-notch. Location could not be better if traveling with kids/teens.

Room Tip: If a quiet, wind down, romantic weekend is your goal, inquire if there are any youth teams booked at...

Pros: Good location, staff was friendly and helpful. Great fitness center.

Cons: See picture attached. If you "get" a river view room, you also "get" the road noise. Not sure what the other sides of the hotel are like, but river side is loud. Who knew there was a hotel in the US that still does not have wireless internet, but this is the one.

Room had not been vacuumed so I used a towel to brush away the remnants from the previous accupant. Beds were entirley too soft for (subjective, I understand).

Hopefully the promises of the new management regarding enovations will come to fruition. I'll hive them another shot next time I'm in town.

Room Tip: River view gets you the road noise.

Upon arrival, found our reservation had been given to someone else. As of yet, we do not know if we paid for someone else to stay here. We did get another room and, as a consolation, they gave us free parking. The room is small but the bed is comfortable. Internet is not wireless and it is not free! It will cost you $13and to hook up. Parking is another $9. The halls smelled funky enough that had our room smelled the same we would not have stayed. Room service was the only option avail due to the holiday a d it was sufficiently good to warrant a good rating. It is not immediately clear how to access the hotel from the parking garage and beware nonresidents. If you want to visit the college football hall of fame you are going to pay a higher admission fee. Who does that??? Let's hope the place we eat breakfast doesn't charge us nonresident prices.

We recently were married in downtown South Bend at the Century Center. For convenience to our guests, we chose (at the time South Bend Marriott, which moved over to) the Hilton Double Tree. We really wanted to show case the best that South Bend had to offer. We were mistaken. From the initial correspondence with the South Bend staff, it was a MESS.

The group coordinator, CM, took DAYS to return either calls or emails. From making sure the guests were provided the group rate (either by calling-in and mentioning the rate, or completing the reservation online) there were constant mix-ups and issues. Most of our guests paid varying rates. When the actual wedding weekend arrived, the front desk staff constantly failed to provide our guests with the assigned gift bags and water. (Dare I think the staff just wanted to keep them for themselves, or just pure incompetency?) We complained multiple times to staff and one issue after another would arise. While the staff was apologetic, they simply were unorganized. One of our bridal party members is a hotel group exec, and frankly, WE were embarrassed by the property.

As for the rooms, they are exactly what others mentioned- old. used. worn down. smelled like smoke. And that was one of the suites. What hotel does NOT have wireless service these days? I had to plug my laptop into a modem cord which was 15 inches.

Now we come to after the wedding and I'm still waiting for correspondence reply from the group coordinator, CM, in regards to the points we were promised when securing our block. Emailed her over 4 days ago, and still no response. Surprised? No, not at all.

Room Tip: No Wi-Fi. Unbelievable.
