“Great brunch!”
Reviewed December 28, 2013 via mobile

This is a fantastic place for a Sunday brunch! Whether it's a family celebration, baby shower, or any special occasion the food is always top notch!
There is something for every palette!

The atmosphere is awesome! A true piece of history. So glad it's still around to share with the community.

A great place to enjoy whether you are visiting South Bend or a lifelong resident. It never gets old to visit and is highly recommended.

“saturday luncheon”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

The house specialty prime rib was served with a dry exterior and was tough. I was surprised it would be allowed to leave the kitchen and the waitress served it. I had to ask for a steak knife to saw through the 2nd slice given to replace the first. The sandwiches ordered were to be on a pretzel bun. Each came with a unappealing dry, smashed kaiser roll. The waitress said the cook did not see the pretzel rolls in the kitchen. Well, sure, that explains it but did we really need to know? A man wearing a white chef's outfit had full neck, arm and hand tatoos. Not a person I want handling my food for a fine dining experience. The desserts were identified as homemade, from a local bakery and from a distributor. Though the honesty was appreciated, why not all homemade? The waitress sent home 2nd sandwiches on a pretzel bun and offered a complimentary dessert to 3 out of the 6 of us who experienced dissatisfaction. I plan to skip this place next time around despite the beautiful holiday decor and historic beauty.

“Passionate Manager”
Reviewed December 28, 2013

We ate here on December 27th, 2013. We had a party of 6. The overall experience was not good, but the manager was passionate about making sure that this did not happen to others. Only 2 out of 6 received their correct order. There were items missing and/or not as ordered. When we finally received what we ordered, the food was good and the desserts are fabulous. Because I do not believe this is the norm, I have rated the restaurant relatively high. (As you can see, from my other posts, I usually only review those places that I would recommend). Even though we had one not so good experience, I would still recommend the restaurant. The décor is attractive and to be able to have a meal in a historical home is a wonderful experience. Just to look at the rooms, and see the detailed woodwork is in itself worth the trip. The restaurant was decorated for Christmas and the gingerbread house on the top floor is worth the walk up the stairs.

“Elegant & Beautiful”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

Beautiful, historical dining experience. Very good service. We had the prime rib. (3 size choices ... No difference between the middle cut & the biggest cut ... Get the middle size). Prices seemed a little high. Meat, potatoes, salad & rolls good; vegetable OK.

“Pleasant Experience”

Great piece of history. Good food. Good service. We'd been there before so probably lacked the wow factor this time around.
