Cafe Navarre never disappoints. Dinner tonight before the theatre was perfection. The ambiance is great--sophisticated reuse of elegant old bank. Service impeccable. Food of highest quality prepared perfectly. Everything from heirloom tomato salad to tender steaks to carrot cake was was delicious. Going to go back for sure.

This restaurant was an upscale treat. The setting of a former bank added to its sophistication. Good wine menu. Great service. Trout and vegan platter, both very good. Great presentation. Our group of four was very pleased. The booths add privacy and note that all meals can be prepared gluten free, according to the menu.

My wife and a friend were there on Friday 10/18/2013. They dined at a table in the bar area, spending over $100, and continued to linger after dinner and desserts with drinks. Their waiter told them that the hostess wanted them to leave because they'd been there too long. My wife then spoke with the hostess, who explained that it was a busy night because of the ND-USC game and that the restaurant wanted them to leave so they could sit someone else at their table.

This is wrong in so many ways I just don't know where to begin. The very last thing a restaurant should ever say to a customer is that they don't want them to be there. It's the hospitality business - what in the world are they thinking? My wife is at this restaurant several times a week with employees, friends, and clients. Not that that should even matter - you don't ever do anything that implies anything but the warmest hospitality.

I advise management to speak to their hostess and clear up any delusions she might have about the nature of the restaurant business. My wife is upset and will likely never return, which is a shame.

We thank your wife and her guests for dining at Café Navarre, and are sorry they were not happy with their experience. We were completely booked with reservations on the evening of October 18. When the first member of your wife's party arrived at 5:30 without a reservation we explained that we were booked, but had a table that wasn't reserved until 7:15. We informed her that we could seat her group at that table as long as she understood we would need the table at 7:15 to accommodate the reservation, and she agreed. We juggled multiple tables and seated many guests after their scheduled time before finally approaching your wife's table at nearly 8:30 with the check. Perhaps the first member of the party who made the arrangement didn't inform the others and this caused the misunderstanding.

My son and I dined here on a Friday night after visiting Notre Dame. We arrived at 615 and were seated outside as we requested. The service was efficient although our waiter didn't have the special memorized and couldn't pronounce some of the food. The food was delicious and prepared perfectly. We had oysters to start followed by a salad for me and onion soup for him. - Some of the best onion soup anywhere. I had perfectly med rare steak frites with a wonderful sauce. He had a seafood dish that was quite tasty as well.
There aren't alot of fine dining choice in downtown South Bend. However Navarre would be a winner just about anywhere!

Dinner with two colleagues at CN. The steak Frites was tasty and the house salad got me started off right. My Russian colleague had never had such a tender lamb shank. The other enjoyed her filet which was nicely sized.

The service was just ok. My iced tea was never refilled.

All in all, a good place for a business or pre-event dinner and a fairly good value too.
