I was traveling alone and staying at the Fairfield Inn, which is quite close. They did not have a bar, so the usual thing you can do when you r somewhere for business was not possible. that is, have a drink as a single female and not feel awkward. But went here, had a nice glass of wine, a salad (menu is fine but pub grub) and felt quite comfortable. Bar tender (Steve) great and all around a good option for ND.

Looking at other reviews, it seems that O'Rourke's has improved service. We were given prompt and fast service for ordering and receiving our food. We went here twice during our visit to Notre Dame, once for dinner and once for lunch. Both meals were fast and very good. I had the Guinness stew in a bread bowl, which is quite good. We had the french onion soup also. Perhaps the prices are a little high for the soup, as it is small. Still the soup was delicious. My only complaint - a serious one for any Guinness drinker - is that my Guinness was served CHILLED!! I've never had chilled Guinness in my life. I would not order Guinness there again until that is corrected.

Drove about 90 miles to have dinner with our daughter for her 1st birthday away from home at college. A reservation was made by our family, as it was her choice because it was her birthday. She had enjoyed the salmon dinner there on a prior occassion, but then again, anything will taste good to a person who eats "dining hall food on a daily basis on campus".
Although we were a bit late, they held our table for us. (Very nice that they were still able to accomodate us.)
The food, not so nice. . .perhaps it would have been great if it was served "cooked" (or at least "warm") and the salad that accompanied the dinner was served before the main course (as is customary in most restaurants in the U..S.) and did not look like it was made from last month's throw-aways!. Wilted brown lettuce ; a couple red onion slices; AND some great croutons -- the only part ot the salad that was edible. The crab dip appetizer was the tastiest part f our $80 +/- meal. The icing on my daughter's "non" birthday cake was the camera that was taken by whomever busted, cleared or served our table. We had left our table to go sit at the bar as to give them an extra table for the waiting customers that were forming. (ThoughT we were doing them a favor in spite of the poor quality of the food.) When we departed (even after leaving a 20% tip, we returned w/in the hour upon realizing we had left our case and camera at our table, and we were handed the beautiful, black carrying case "sans" the $800 camera. I guess they thought they could just keep the camera and we wouldn't miss it! (Nice people.)
So thank you again for making my daughter's birthday a day we are truly never to forget, and thank you for making your restaurant one which we would truly LOVE to forget. Nice people you hire there! Great cooks too! I quess the people who took care of our table didn't think our 20% tip was enough--they needed our camera and our memories too. What a place. What birthday. What wonderful memories you have left us with What wonderful memories you stole from us.. Thank you.

Not a bad burger and a good selection of pub food overall. Part of the new complex just south of the Notre Dame campus. There's a parking deck about two blocks away if you can't find a space on the street.
