We happened upon the Museum of Art as part of our river walk, it was open and airy and not all stuffy and crowded. Very interesting to see art so nicely displayed

For a museum of this size, there is a good variety of exhibits from beautiful permanent oil paintings to a temporary exhibit named Recombination. The museum is laid out well and we were rarely cramped or crowded even with others in the area. The final room near the exit to the Century Center was pretty 'crafty' for an art museum. Some may appreciate it but we didn't care for it. But that was the only thing even approaching a negative. There was no admission fee but there was a location for donations. Go and enjoy!

With a generous permanent collection it is possible to have old favorites and to see something new often. The newer Dot Shop is a great opportunity to support local artists. The classes offered can be a bit expensive but they offer a wider range than what some of the other local artist locations are able to offer due to facilities available. Suggestion donations for entry. There is a bulletin board near the side entrance with notices of many different art events in the area.

We were not expecting much in a relatively small museum. It turned out that they really have a nice collection of regional artists as well as a traveling exhibit on the Negro Leagues in baseball. I'd recommend a visit if you're in South Bend.

This museum is housed in a contemporary building. We parked in the front. We were greeted by a charming lady who welcomed us warmly and explained the lay out. There are a number of galleries featuring everything from oils to sculpture to audio visual displays. I did not really pick up any theme or flow though there were some impressive paintings and murals. The different galleries are open with benches placed about. It was very light and airy.

There was a small but pricey gift shop, recently reopened after five years. It would have be nice if they had smaller and less expensive items such as postcards, cups and the like especially since they cater to kids.

If you happen to be in South Bend, it is worth a visit. It is located close to the Chocolate Cafe and other restaurants and museums.Admission and parking are free.
