As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

The hostess greeted us with a smile! Sat us promptly. Our server was pleasant and smiling. She brought us the coffee we needed soon! The selection was adequate, hot and plentiful. Priced right and good times were had by all!

The two of us both had the fried chicken with the sweet potato casserole--both were scrumptious, and the server was was very good. We really enjoyed our lunch. Later in the afternoon we went back for dessert and decided on the chocolate brownie with fudge sauce, ice cream, and topped with a big glob of whipped cream. It was WONDERFUL!! If you love chocolate, you need to try it. Again, the server was very attentive. Both times we had a very positive experience, and I will definitely be going back the next time I visit Shipshewana.

They have very good food here. The fried chicken is some of the best that I have had. The roast beef is really moist. They have Amish made peanut butter and apple butter on the tables. They bring miniature loaves of bread that is yummy and really yummy with the peanut butter and apple butter. They have the bakery, which is connected to the restaurant, but has it's own entrance. The bakery has very good homemade donuts, cookies, pies, etc. Plus you can buy the peanut butter and apple butter that the have in the restaurant. I highly, highly recommend the restaurant and the bakery!

We drove to this place especially for the pie.
Soooo disappointed.
Apple =adequate but nothing to justify a long drive.
Coconut Cream =terrible - not one good comment.
Crust was tough, filling was floppy with barely any coconut and no flavor, cream on top was flavorless. A big fat 0.
We decided not to try any more.
Meal was fine and service fine but what a let down.
Sad
