Description: When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from

“Classic Shipshewana tourista destination~don't miss it!”

We ordered less than standard fare from the menu - not the family style. Great service, delicious food. My son ordered a tradtional Amish carb-loaded dish: chicken & noodles on top of a bed of mashed potatoes with a gravy sauce on top. It was gigantic!! Service was great. It's noisy and quite large, not for a romantic dinner, but wander around and enjoy the amazing ambiance!

“Family style at it's best”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

Beautiful oak wood adorns the entire building. Family style food was great, asked for only white meat chicken and they were able to accommodate us. Only complaint was sitting close to the door that leads to the next dinning room, it was very noisy when the door would hit the frame as each server went in or out.

“Very nice in every way”
Reviewed July 6, 2013

We were there on a Friday of the 4th of July weekend. We had a 45 minute wait, but because of reviews on Tripadvisor, we knew there were many things to look at in the building while we waited and that their PA system would let us know when our table was ready. We headed for the bakery and gift shops. Lots of interesting items. The bathrooms are very large and clean.

Our meal was very good and large portions. My husband had the glazed meatloaf and I had the Amish sampler with chicken, ham and roast beef. Very good. Huge dessert menu. We had pie. Service was very good. Very nice afternoon.

“Loved it”
Reviewed July 6, 2013 via mobile

We ordered the family style dinner and it was very good. The chicken was very tender and juicy. Ordered the meatloaf with it and it was very good loved the glaze on it. The mashed potatoes were real potatoes not from a box. The service was really good she came and checked on us and kept our drinks filled. The dessert was very good. Would go back.

“Very good food and very busy restaurant”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

This place looks very busy and it is; however, they are very good at getting people in and out without rushing you. Food comes quickly and tastes great. Even if you are full, you can get pie to take home.
