“Perfect weekend break”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2012

The first point to note is that the current website does not do this wonderful B&B justice. I stayed at the Manor with my husband; we are a young couple that enjoy cycling weekend all across the UK.
The B&B is a tastefully refurbished sixteenth century building in a stunning setting. The room and en-suite bathroom were clean, warm and just the right size. Every detail had been given discrete attention and the bathroom was full of goodies, which was reflective of the hospitality we received throughout our stay.
Upon arrival, Karin offered us tea, accompanied by a delightful home-made treats. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful.
The only factor that may be a disadvantage to some is that there is no TV, although I have to say it makes for a much more relaxing get-a-way and the room (and the rest of the house) is furnished with an extensive range of books. In any event, the setting is so spectacular that it would be criminal to watch TV with so much else on offer.
All in all, this B&B is an excellent choice for all those looking for a quiet break in the incomparable and beautiful Cotswolds.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms in this delightful B&B

We spent 5 nights with Karin and James in their wonderful 16th century home in the center of the Cotswolds and loved every moment. Her breakfasts are outstanding as are the accommodations which overlook fields and forests for miles around. Clapton-On-The-Hill is a great base for exploring the Cotswolds and just a 30 minute drive west of Oxford and Blenheim. The bedrooms are spotless and tastefully decorated with modern bathrooms en-suite. The surrounding grounds with gardens are lovely. The village is exceptionally quiet and restfull. The nearby village of Bourton-On-The Water was one of our many favorites where I would highly recommend the Cotwolds Motoring Museum. There are many great pubs within 10 miles in villages such as Bledington, Upper and Lower Oddington and Barnsley. Karin is a great resource for day trip advice directing us to Hidcote Gardens, Sudely Castle, Stanway House, and many wonderful less touristy villages. Thank you, Karin for a great visit. We will be back!

Clapton Manor is one of the most beauitful places we have ever stayed- the achingly lovely stone manor house surrounded by gardens is very beauitufl- even more beautiful than the webistie photos show. Situated in the middle of the Cotswolds, we have amazing days of short drives to picturesque vilages before returning the Clapton. The area is pretty farmland- rabbits hop up and down the roads and a charming stone church is across the road. Karin, your host, is friendly, helpful and an amazing cook- we had eggs from their own chickens, her husband's homemade bread, fresh fruits, preserves.... The garden is garden tour quality and a delight. Karin's huband runs garden tours and his love of gardens is evident throughtout theirs- Beautiful peach Cottswold gravel and stone wallks set off climbing roses, rows of pleached limes, a stylish and cool 'greenery' house and a wide range of perennials. Out beyond the main garden area is a field of grass mowed in geometric patterns with a funny "hilltop" with three trees on top- quirky and fun. The house and garden have been featured in magazines for both the garden and lovely interior furnishings. 10/10 B & B

My husband and I spent two nights with James and Karin in their delightful home. From our arrival (yes the homemade cake was scrumptious) util our departure we were made to feel so welcome. The bed was so so comfy and our room and bathroom spotlessly clean with delightful views. The guests sitting room was a real treat with comfy settees and magazines. Breakfast was one of the best breakfasts we have ever had and we have stayed at several 5stars hotels all over the world including Mauritius, Dubai, Switzerland, Singapore. The choice was brill even smoked salmon was offered and James home made bread was delicious. Karin was a fount of knowledge regarding local sights and restaurants and gladly made bookings for us, even arranging a private garden visit for us. Thank you both for a wonderful stay, we will be back and have a great holiday in Scotland.

13 days in the South of England, we stayed at some great places, and this is just the very best of the best. Reading the reviews posted by others from October 2008 to July 2010, the consistency is amazing but the comments are all so true. What more can we say, this is the home away from home we all dream of finding when we travel, with Karin the most helpful, gracious & attentive hostess. 12 out of 10!!!

There is nothing I can say about this wonderful place that would convey how lovely it is. It was hard to remember that we weren't staying with friends for the weekend.
The house was fabulous but the owners even better ! Karin in particular made is feel so welcome..she couldn't have done more.
We would certainly go again even if it was just for the breakfasts which were the best we'd had in many a B and B stay.
Don't write too many good reviews or we will never be able to get in again!

One unique thing about the Clapton Manor experience is that Karin Bolton goes out of her way to make your Cotswolds trip special, including loaning brochures, maps, local travel books and providing personal advice as to itineraries while staying at Clapton Manor. Her suggestions of places to visit did not disappoint and we felt lucky to have had her input.

We stayed in the bedroom overlooking the tiny village road and the countryside and it was very quiet and peaceful. Karin loves high quality linens and this adds a touch of luxury to the comfortable beds. We appreciated Karin's attention to detail such as providing a power strip for charging cellphones, camera batteries etc, and also her multiple selections of bath gels and salts. She will even do some laundry for you, which is great for people who have been traveling for a long time.

When staying in a "listed" Tudor era house there will be some inconveniences such as single-pane windows which are not allowed to be changed out, tiny bathrooms and narrow steep staircases, but these are minor in the grand scheme of things.

Karin's breakfasts have been well described in other posts. Her husband James contributes the home made bread, and he is also a genial host. His garden tours are top notch and worth considering on their own, totally apart from staying at Clapton Manor.
