We have always gone to Mansfield for the Cover Bridge Festival but got tired of the overly large crowds and all the booths with imported goods. We choose to head to Briidgeton last year. Still crowded but a lot better. Still way to many imported crafts but a lot more home made crafts then Mansfield. We will be going to Bridgeton from now on.

This beautiful covered bridge in located in the southern part of Parke County and well worth the backroad journey to get there. One can no longer drive across but there are several areas to enjoy the view of the bridge over the mill dam. During the summer the mill is open to tour and buy milled flour. If you are photographer and want a good shot, late afternoon/early evening in spring and summer afford the best lighting.

We were so glad we headed south from Rockville to Bridgeton. It was an easy drive and we could stop and photograph one of the bridges many people drive through. Our destination was Bridgeton with a dam+waterfal and an old working flour mill. The fall colors added to the scenery.Lots of shops and plenty of festival foods available so you can spend a while just relaxing. Convenient nearby parking ($3) was a plus. Too bad a storm was brewing and we had to leave before checking out all the shops! My friend and I would love to return next year and stay overnight.
