Potato Creek State Park has been a favorite of the Keller family since the mid 80s. It's a very scenic Indiana State Park South of South Bend, IN. Worster Lake is the main attraction. Fishing, swimming & hiking are very popular.
It has an extensive hiking trail system. All of the trails are or can be made into loops. The trail they marked as rugged (trail 2) is merely moderate IMO. There are some stairs on trail 2. All the trails are scenic, most with some view of the lake.
There's a paved bike trail, as well a new mountain bike trail. I've only been on the paved trail & it's enjoyable.
It has a pretty good nature center. Many picnic areas. A few fishing piers & a fish cleaning station. There are boat rentals by the beach. The beach... well. All I have to say is, swim with the algae (yuck!). Lake swimming is not my favorite thing to do.
Potato Creek has a huge campground! The best sites are those that rim the campground. As always, stay away from the sites by the dumpsters! Modern restrooms with showers. There's a camp store & youth tent sites (I've taken Cub Scouts there to camp in the past). There's also another campground just for horsemen on the East side of the park. There are also extensive trails for horses. There are also cabins for rent by the week.
All in all, you can find a lot to do at Potato Creek. It's an enjoyable way to spend a weekend camping, hiking & fishing!
