First visit to the Talbot after seeing the reviews on here decided to give it a try. The weekday evening menu has a choice of a la carte or a selection of courses for a set price. 2 courses for £16.49 or 3 for £19.99, excellent value when you compare to the likes of Frankie and Benny's considering that the food at the Talbot is far superior! Excellent selection of all courses and great service. Restaurant area itself is a little cramped and still didn't quite top my favourite place to eat locally, but i will certainly return.

After a few recommendations, we booked at short notice for Sunday lunch. Due to a party the night before, we ended up going a little bit hungover, with not the best of appetites, and ended up only ordering main courses. Both were delicious, and we were well and truly stuffed. Normally, I'm a 3 course guy, and felt sad that I could only manage a main, so we vowed to go back sooner rather than later.

Considering you can get a rubbish Sunday lunch at many pubs for less than a fiver, The Talbot might seem a bit pricy, but it's definitely worth it. Highly recommended!

Paid a visit to the Talbot on Sunday and to give a fair review, i admit i was a little disappointed in the beginning.

We took family who were up for xmas as previously our visits been very good. Our table was not ready and we had to wait jammed up at bar like sardines until seats were free.

After what seemed like eternity we were taken to a table upstairs, it seemed a bit chaotic. Not sure if they were understaffed but it certainly seemed that way. Once seated service was on the slow side but as everyone left, it did improve.

Food was great as ever although the wife did complain that her black pudding starter was a little under done, maybe its a taste thing but i also prefer it a bit crispy around the edges than soft and soggy.

But thats where the negatives stop, pressed belly pork was superb, and everybody was well pleased with their mains of either beef or lamb. Duck starter was fantastic, and the deserts were all excellent the sloe gin brulee especially.

What sets the Talbot apart from the rest in the area (apart from the food) is the service, things can go wrong from time to time, people may take longer leaving than expected. We went from being unhappy diners to leaving very happy diners and that is down to customer service skills of the management. Nothing is too much trouble and we were looked after without having to even ask, there were issues at service but on a busy day it is understandable and we left appreciating the effort and service.

After a bad start to the day i left full of praise, and the Talbot is well worth visiting and imo best pub food in the area and there are some very good places locally

We chose to have our Xmas lunch at the Talbot as we have always had great meals and service there. We were a big family party with relatives from the local area, Newcastle, London, Huddersfield and South Africa . We all chose different elements to the menu and all agreed unanimously that the food was cooked, presented and more importantly tasted fantastic.
A big thank you to all at the Talbot for making the day so special.
I would highly recommend .
