Visitors of Antwerp should not forget the 2 fortresses some 10km northwest of the city, i.e., Lillo (on the eastern shore of the Schelde river) and Liefkenshoek. This report is on Lillo, built around 1585 and containing a small village with church, some restaurants/cafes, a museum, ... If you're lucky, you'll meet "De Krabbenvanger" at Taverne 't Pleintje, who will tell you everything on this little gem. As long as the reinforments of the dyke along the Schelde river allows it, you may take a walk over the ramparts... During summer, there is a ferry service for cyclists and pedestrians to the village of Doel on the western river bank.
