“Great day out”

Brown County State Park

Attraction details
Owner description: Nicknamed the "Little Smokies" because of the area's resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and fog-shrouded ravines. Glaciers from the most recent ice ages stopped short of the "hills o' Brown," but their meltwaters helped create the narrow ridges, steep slopes and deep gullies of Brown County State Park. Indiana's largest park is a traditional fall color hot spot, with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and many scenic vistas overlooking miles of uninterrupted forestland.

Brown County State Park is a lovely day out. It has wonderful walks - short and long. A nice lake and a children's play area. We did a 6 mile walk through the woods (walk 9 I believe) - it was great with lots of ups and downs. The town of Nashville is really sweet and has plenty of places to stop and shop and eat.

Can't wait to come back with the kids and stay in a family cabin or the lodge.

Bike trails are amazing, we thought we were pretty good, but the beginner trail kicked our butts! Wear a helmet! Plenty of obstructions on the trails, so watch your speed. Hubby almost flipped over a downed tree.

Walking trails are peaceful and gorgeous in the fall.

Lodge has coffee in the hallway, a nice touch.

Wanted to try the dining room, but will do next time.

Indiana's oldest bridge is located at the North Gate Entrance to the Brown County State Park. It is the only double tunnel bridge in the state. We only went to see and take a picture of the bridge, so it did not cost us anything. I believe it was $5 if you went on into the park. This is all we saw of the park.

Trails were amazing! Ease of access and the beauty of the State Park was superb. Highly recommend bringing a picnic lunch to chill at one of the many great picnic areas in the park.

The park was a very nice nature area with rolling hills and very nice vistas. Quiet and relaxing places to park and enjoy nature while enjoying the views. Seems to be a very popular location for mountain biking with several trails. Not many people there when I was there (week days in September), but I understand that it gets very busy when the fall leaves turn. Nashville Indiana is very close if you tire of the park. Nashville is definitely a tourist town, but has some nice (if over priced) shops worth walking through.
