“Great for Mountain bike trails”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

The hotel itself is an older lodge. The rooms are OK but pretty basic. The aquatic center looked like a good time for families with younger kids. The food was fair and I would suggest going into Nashville 5 minutes away. Access to the mountain bike trail system was our primary reason for choosing the hotel. Brown County MTB trails (and hiking) are fantastic.

We stayed two nights in the lodge. We had a room on the first floor near the Aquatic center, but we never used it. It looked nice, but a bit crowded later in the day. There was a small arcade area with some games, ping pong and air hockey that looked nice. The whole lodge looked a little older, but up kept. The rooms were clean but the carpet looked ready to replace and just felt a little off. The bathroom was small with little counter space, but we were able to deal with that.

The restaurant was good. We went for breakfast both mornings and were pleased with the food, even though the service was slow and they were a little overwhelmed.

Not a bad place, fun for families with kids.

I took my young boys to the Abe Martin Lodge Family Cabin. They had a blast, but I would not stay here again. It was dated, worn and stained; the kind of place you feel you can't walk around without your shoes on and you don't want to sit on the furniture. The lighting was very low, which probably was a blessing in disguise as I could still see lots of stains on the furniture. Can't imagine what it would have looked like in decent lighting. One of our sliding doors didn't lock well, and I was worried about our security at night. The carpet upstairs absolutely needs to be updated along with the living room furniture. We had a good time at the water park at the lodge, but it was crowded. We rode horses at the park's stables both days of our stay and visited the nature lodge. We really enjoyed being in a beautiful state park. Again, the kids had a great time, but I was disappointed in the condition of the cabin. I really felt the state park system should do better and I can't believe we paid $192/night for it. Overall, definitely not a good value. The breakfast buffet at the lodge was terrible, but the staff was friendly. We ate at McDonald's the second day for breakfast, which I almost never do. If we decide to go back to Brown County, we will look for a private cabin rental, unless I hear about the cabins being updated. It is long overdue.

We didn't stay at the hotel, but we did use the indoor water park. We almost didn't go there because of less than stellar reviews from this site. Decided to go anyway since it was so warm outdoors. We had a ball. Maybe we were lucky because it wasn't very crowded & we did things without having to stand in line......down the slide & right back up & down the slide & well, you get my drift. My grandson played basketball for a couple of hours. He had a wonderful time slam dunking from the side of the pool. We played volleyball (sort of) & floated on the lazy river. Noticed that it almost completely emptied out around 5:30-6:00. If you plan your meals right, you could have the place to yourself.

We stayed in the lodge and it was OK. Pretty clean and the ac worked good. We ate at the lodge twice. Very good waiter and waitress. Food at the buffet was good but I thought a little high even though it was Saturday. The next day they had the same food but it was $2.00 cheaper. Aquatic Center was great for kids but not much for adults. The park itself is really nice and very large. All of the employees at the lodge and in the park were very friendly and nice. We would like to go back sometime but not in the middle of the summer when it is so hot.

We've been travelling to the Abe Martin Lodge every year for several years as part of family tradition. The cabins and lodge are ok, the small rustic cabins are terrible. This was the first year we tried them out. Looks like a cheap motel room when you walk in. Rooms are not very clean. The comforters looked so nasty so I called and asked for new bedding. The customer service was great. They immediately took care of the problem and gave us money back on our stay. The waterpark is a lot of fun for our boys. We go to be with family, not because the lodging is great. I do have to say the one thing I loved about the cabin was that we had a porch to sit on overlooking the woods. It was very pretty.

Room Tip: Stay in the lodge or the big cabins.

We just came from spending 3 days at the Rustic Cabins of Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park, Nashville Indiana and I hate to say this but it was a terrible experience. My wife & I are pretty laid back seasoned travellers andwe try to make exceptions for when things go wrong but these Cabins are the pits !!! The musty smell in the cabins was so strong that we had to leave the windows open while we ran the air conditioning-- plus they need an exterminator- during the night we had a mouse scurrying about the room and we found a bug ( NOT a Bedbug !!) under the pillow. The water pipes made a sound which we originally thought was a raccoon or squirrel trying to claw in but due to the rhythmic cadence we realized it was a water main problem. This was just NOT a good experience and we will NEVER stay in these cabins again. The Lodge itself appears to be well kept and the staff were nice but when they say RUSTIC they should have said DUMP !!!The front desk did give us money off of the cost of our rooms but not what I thought sufficient for the amount of discomfort we experienced. Nashville Indiana is a great town but stay away from these cabins !!!!

Room Tip: Do NOT give the benefit of the doubt when you find something wrong--- notify the clerk immediately...
