This is a great family place. Good food, farm tours, wagon rides, candy shop, cheese shop and more ... There is a gift shop and a theatre. Check it out.
The restaurant serves family style. I recommend the roast beef and fried chicken, the ham -- not so much. The starter bean soup is delicious.

We saw a play which the actors were great and my wife lived it. The buggy ride was relaxing and we did learn a lot about the Amish we did not know even though we live near several large Amish communities. The Meal was very good, whipped potatoes and dressing near the top of my best ever list.

Touring the Amish area of Indiana, we visited the Amish Acres in Napanee. We had lunch in the diningroom first. It was good food and good value but limited choices. Dining in the big old barn was a rare treat.
Dont fret...its clean and tidy!
Do the tour, which includes the movie, house tour and wagon ride. Lots of items in the gift shop as well. The blossoms were perfect the day we were there in May.

We went the during the off-season so it was not crowded. The Round-Barn Theatre perfoances had not begun for the season. You can easly do everything (but the theatre) in a 1/2 day, but why rush? Relax and enjoy the good life.

The Inn was quiet and peaceful. We rented a king-suite with a wihirpool tub for a very good rate. The included breakfast was comparable to mid-level hotel - nothing special or Amish-like, but palatable. By staying at the Inn you also get special discount coupons at the different shops.

We bought an all-inclusive ticket that includes the house our, wagon ride around the grounds and the Chicago Tribune renowned "Thrasher's Dinner" which is a great bargain. The grounds are big enough to get the feel for Amish life, yet small enough to The staff is super friendly and genuine (compared to the "trained-smiley" Disney type).

The "Thrasher's Dinner" (family style) is everything it is hyped to be. Simply a must-do that includes desert.

South Bend is less than an hour away.

We stopped in Nappanee to have some service work done on our motorhome. We were only spend one day, but after that day we ended up spending 4 days there.
We went to Amish Acres and were blown away by all the things they had there, it is like a large museum in every building. We had supper there, we were stuffed when we walked out. The food there is down to earth cooking, all you can eat. The staff are just so friendly and they can not do enough for you.
Our stay in the area was capped off with the apple festival in Nappanee, they shut the town down and the whole Amish community comes out. You see horse and buggies all over the place. The real high light was the evening Amish farm festival when all the old wood burning farm tractors are shooting sparks after dark. It was just amazing.
The best time to go to Amish Acres is mid September during their festival.
Great fun for the whole family.
