“Great room but lacking something...”
Reviewed January 27, 2012

The resort offered a great two bedroom, two storey apartment that had many great features. Obvious updating have been completed but a few things still need improving such as the lounge furniture. We had considered inviting our in-laws on this family trip but are pleased we did not when we felt the lack of comfort afforded by the fold out bed. This fold out sofa and two very uncomfart solo chairs formed the seating area of the lounge which was not the most comfortable. Location is great to access the many activities in and around Hobart. Self catering is well accommodated however would have liked the option of a resort-style breakfast but the restaurant is only open at night 5 days a week. Nice place to rest and do very little. The airport is basically next door but you really don't notice the planes. Great bathrooms!

Room Tip: Check to see what style of extra bedding is available if more than 4 people staying.

Used some bonus Worldmark credits we had and booked the two bedroom presidential suite, which was fantastic! Two bathrooms, three toilets, washing machine and dryer were more than necessary, but made for a comfortable, homely feel. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped, although I'm never quite happy with the equipment in any kitchen but my own.
We especially enjoyed having a bbq to ourselves, which was one of the advantages of the presidential suite, along with a jacuzzi and a spa in the main bathroom.
The grounds feature native Australian flora (although I think it's a bit of a stretch to be calling kangaroo paw native this far east!), and they attract native fauna. The groundsman offers garden tours on Sundays.
The resort pool was excellent, and it was hard to get the kids out of it to go exploring this part of Tasmania. The resort is barely 20 minutes from Hobart's CBD, and only 10 minutes from the nearest service town of Sorell where they have both red and green versions of Colesworths. Better, more local produce-style grocers can be found at Lauderdale and Cambridge (which is closest), and if you're around at the right time you can find farm gate produce; we got 3kg of beautiful Dutch cream potatoes from a local farmer for $5 when we arrived, and these were our staple around which we built lots of meals for the week. Salamanca Markets are great for shopping, but for produce there's a farmer's market in Hobart on Sundays. The place books out during the Taste Festival, so book early!
Port Arthur is worthy of a day trip; it's an hour each way, but a beautiful drive (watch for great views of Hobart as you pass Forcett on a clear day). Richmond is about 20 minutes drive (unless like us you get stuck behind a tourist's campervan, in which case, pull over and have a picnic while you wait for the road to clear!).
The airport is in spitting distance, but thankfully the pilots aren't in the habit of spitting! Aeroplanes take off and land two or three times an hour, but the noise isn't bad at all really, and it certainly didn't bother us.
Seven Mile Beach is just on the other side of some dunes, but there's no direct access across the well-vegetated dunes, so you need to wear shoes and walk down the road to a point where there's an access path, or drive to the carpark. The beach is long and quiet, except down near the airport where a landing plane will pass 100m overhead once or twice an hour. I actually found this a real novelty, and took the kids right to the point where they pass and didn't tell them. They got a real buzz out of the planes passing over their heads while they built sandcastles!
This is a fantastic resort, and we'll be back!

Room Tip: Don't bother with the presidential suite unless you don't want to use the shared hotel spa o...

First visited in June 2009, took the car on the Spirit of Tasmania. Very chilly but we had a ball exploring the north coast, Burnie, west coast Cradle Mountain, south coast Port Arthur, east coast Freycinet National Park, Tahune, Bicheno and lots in between. Seven Mile Beach a gr8 place for family to rest and relax. Returned in August 2011, flew this time, much quicker and a gr8 adventure for the kids. Not chilly at all, 17+ degrees most days, the kids swam in the pool every day, my husband and I soaked up the serenity in the spa. Public transport into Hobart easy to access and we borrowed the bikes to ride to Cambridge & back. Dined at the Beaches restaurant, very nice atmosphere.

I stayed with my family in 2010 as part of a trip around Tassie and we were blown away by teh rooms(villas) and facilities provided in this brand new resort. Most impressive was the service and friendliness of staff who helped me with my booking as I had 6 kids to accomodate. The villa was very spacious and ultr modern. We fitted in compfortably and had a fantastic time. The resort is close to the airport but not in Hobart so be prepared to drive (about 20 min from memory). Graet pool, tennis court and activities centre. My kids wanted to stay all day rather than go touring. Highly recommended!!!

Room Tip: Villas are very spacious

Second time we stayed here, both times in Winter
The location is handy to the airport and not far from the 'centre' on Hobart. You do need a car but I can't imagine too many people (other than back packers) not renting a car in Tassie. Reasonable size shopping centre about 10-12 minutes drive away
The resort itself is lovely, we never really heard the planes even though the airport is on the back door so to speak.
My only gripe this time (and I did mention to management) was the $45 charge they asked to make the 2 single beds in the 2nd room into a double, yep, to zip them together and remake they wanted to charge $45.... I slept most nights on the pull out divan in the loungeroom instead.
The quality of the 2 bedroom we stayed in this year was excellent though last year we had the townhouse and the floor is not insulated noise wise so it was unbearably noisy.
Will prob return next year

We are very impresed with the quality of the resort and my friends have rated it as a 5 stars resort. It is so well equiped and the maintaneance is excellent. The only thing that we find lacking is the mid week service of cleaning the unit. (as other resorts that we have stayed did provide a mid-week cleaned up)

We have a very good time there and will definitely recommend it to other members.

The Hotel is great but there are limited amenities around. The restaurant is only open (I think Tuesday to Friday) and only for dinner. The food is at best mediocre and mainly fries. The rooms are excellent, full kitchen, lounge and spotless. The resort has a heated pool, games room, outside heated spa, BBQ's and great facilities for kids.

To get food you need to drive to Sorel about 10KM away, go into Hobart 20km away, or to a pub also about 10 km away. The beach is lovely but the winds are cold - even in December. The resort is a good base to tour the southern part of Tasmania. If you stay there you will need a car. There are supermarkets about 10 km away and the local service station about 1 km away has an excelent supermarket (closes about 7) and also sells fish and chips.

There are bicycles, fishing rods, and DVD's available. The resort is very child friendly. I would recommend this resort more for a family holiday. If you wish to tour Tasmania it will be better to be more mobile and work your way around the island.
