Blue Door Cottages
Reviewed May 29, 2009

We rented Bungalow Cottage #8 for the Memorial Day Weekend. As one of the kids said, it was magical! The cottage was very clean, cute and comfortable. The beds were also amazingly comfortable! The cottages are new, with none of the musty- mildew smell of older cottages. We were able to enjoy docking the boat nearby, playing "bags" or cornhole, having a campfire complete with s'mores, grilling out, etc.

The only suggestion I might have for someone planning on a stay is to check out what stuff you need to bring. tiny things like salt and pepper for the corn on the cob. Although the host was more than gracious enough to allow us to borrow his salt.

The owners are very helpful via email, and as I said the host was a delight. We, as a family, enjoyed our stay and really did not want to leave and have it be over. That is the marking of a great vacation.

We would definitely recommend Blue Door Cottages to anyone, and I have over 100 pictures to prove our good time.

My family of 4 (6 & 3 year old) shared the Big Cabana with my brother & sister in law and their 6 & 5 year olds. It was perfect! The cabana is split down the middle with the full kitchen and living space. We each had our own bathroom, king & queen size beds. Everything was immaculate and refreshing. The beds and bedding were amazing and you just fell into them at night.

They are minutes from Indiana Beach where we spent the first day. We ate across the street at the Shafer Yacht Club, which was delicious. The smothered fries are fantastic!

The next day we decided to stay at the resort. There was so much to do! They have beanbags/cornhole, swimming in the pool, and we borrowed their badminton set for the day. There was plenty for us to do that we never left the resort & never were bored.

I made a reservation request on the blue door website per their instructions for 2 nights for the big cabana at $250 a night with my credit card, their website stated that they would give a response within 48 hours ,well it has been 72 hours and after several phone calls where you only get a recording and two emails still nothing. This is pretty aggravating because I had planned to be there 3 days from now. I based my choice on tripadvisor reviews, this sounded like a pretty great place,

These DARLING, well equipped, clean cottages were perfect for our family of 4 for our trip to Indiana Beach Amusement Park. The staff at Blue Door cottages are the friendliest - great, great customer service. The cottages are super clean, the beds are very comfortable, the fire pits, pool are all great. The location is ideal and with their new restaurant opening right across the street in a few weeks - that is going to be amazing. The 10+ cottages are perfect for getaways with other families. Check out their website and you will really see the difference of what Blue Door has to offer and the others in town. On another note, everything is close by - Super Wal-Mart, Indiana Beach Resort, fun kids' activities, drive-in movie, golf courses, yummy restaurants! It's a great getaway - we came from Chicago and loved the drive and 3-night stay to sart the summer off.

My family has been visiting Indiana Beach for over 40 years!! We have stayed at many different resorts over the years hoping to find one that we can return to year after year after year...WE FOUND IT!!
Blue Door is everything that you would want and more.
The cottages are adorable! The layouts are great. They are clean, roomy and stocked with just about everything you would possibly need. They really thought of everything when planning out the bedding. A family of just about any size can find a cottage right for them.
The grounds are just as nice as the cottages. It's very clean, even outside! They have a great pool and plenty of lawn games. They even have a firepit area to enjoy at night.
The owners are MAGNIFICENT to deal with. They couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Jennifer, Heidi and all involved, really have an incredible sense of family and it reflects in the way they run their business.
I've stayed in Cottage #1 and the Big Cabana #7..both were wonderful!
I'm looking forward to coming back and making new family memories and traditions with Blue Door!
I'm also looking forward to the restraunt opening summer '08!
When in Monticello.....stay at Blue Door!

It's nearly not possible to accurately describe the fantastic experience we had at Blue Door Cottages. Our thanks to Jennifer, Heidi and company. We stayed in cottage 4, which like all the others is freshly remodeled and decorated. In a word: WOW! The cottage is the cake and the hosts hospitality and attitude the icing. Friendly, congenial and attentive. Everything you would expect at a 4 star hotel but with a down-to-earth attitude.
The greatest compliment I can give is we will DEFINITELY be back.

My extended family and I stayed at the Blue Door Cottages for a family reunion. We had 10 children ranging in age from 2 to 12 and 11 adults. We had a wonderful time. The cottages were very clean and decorated in bright pretty colors. The beds were comfortable and had nice soft sheets. The pool area was very clean and comfortable. The kids swam all day. There, also, was a grass area near the pool where people could play beanbags and other games. The staff was very friendly and helpful. At night we had campfires and marshmallow roasts. We were able to make supper every night for our group using the barbecues by our cottages or by using the stoves and microwaves in our cottages. The were plenty of dishes, bowls, and pots and pans to use. We, also, were able to eat outside together using the large picnic tables at the back of the property. The negatives were few. When we checked into cottage 13 we were surprised to find bunk beds in the one room. That was not mentioned on the website. It was okay for us because my children were old enough to use the beds. For someone with smaller children or adults uncomfortable with sleeping in a bunk bed, it would have been bad. Also, this is not a hotel, so you have to pay extra if you want new towels every day. If you stay there for 6 days or more they will exchange your towels once for free. They do not give you shampoo or soap for the shower. The firepits for the campfire in the back of the property were fun for our group, but they were within feet of two of the cottages. I can imagine if a group was up late in the evening enjoying the fire that it would be loud for the people staying in those two cottages, if they were trying to sleep. All in all the Blue Door Cottages are a wonderful place. My family and I would not hesitate to stay there again. It is the perfect place for anyone wanting to have a family reunion.
