At first glance, Shafer Lake looked like many other destination for weekend boaters and campers. However, nestled along the shore is a wonderful place run by wonderful people. We stayed 2 days with friends and had a most relaxing time. The rooms were comfortable. The great room offered many family friendly activities (Just in case it rained). There was a large covered deck, great for sitting or for having tables for a larger group. The lawn has a fire ring for cool evenings, roasting marshmallows, or talking and singing with fellow guests. You can swim, boat, jet ski, fish, or just relax in the shade. The breakfast offered all types of choices, from the usual cereal, toast, juice and coffee to ham & egg casserole, cheesy potatoes, french toast casserole, yogurt and fruit. We were happy "campers". We are now considering a girls long weekend here.

Mike and Bonnie Triplett are exceptional innkeepers. We all felt very much at home and they provided anything we even looked like we needed, i.e. blankets outdoors on the deck on a cool evening, fabulous boat ride on Lake Shafer, ready to light fire pit by beach, phone call ahead to restaurant to prepare for 10 people and on and on and on. Bonnie is an excellent cook with surprises every morning. We would definitely return and would recommend this B&B to anyone visiting in this area.

My family of 27 ranging from 6 weeks to 73 years spent a long weekend at the Lighthouse Lodge Bed and Breakfast in Monticello, Indiana to celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. Mike and Bonnie Triplett are incredible hosts with something to offer everyone. Accommodations were up to date, clean, relaxing and very nicely decorated. And the breakfast . . . AWESOME!!! My family swam, fished, boated, grilled out and just plain relaxed. There was not one complaint and many wished we had booked for a whole week and talked about returning next year before we even checked out!!!!! ********** TEN STARS !!!

OMG! This place is AMAZING!!! Like another reviewer, we stumbled upon their website while looking for places to stay in Monticello. Mike and Bonnie are SO accomodating. We were the only guests one night, so we had the house to ourselves. We were able to use the gas grill and kitchen to cook a meal. Then we used the rec room to play a game of poker (on a poker table). They have a big-screen TV use to use, a Wii, poker table, gourmet kitchen, gas grill, and a fire pit. On the second night we sat on the deck and watched the sunset over the lake, then made a fire. The first day the guys had an early tee time and the girls had a spa appointment, so we let them know we wouldn't be around for lunch and they were very grateful for us letting them know (otherwise Bonnie gets up at 6am to start breakfast). On Sunday we had a delicious breakfast of eggs cooked to order, sausage and hasbrowns).
As far as the bedrooms they weren't huge, but very functional. We had Rooms 4 & 5 that can be joined together. Each had a full bathroom, kitchenette, table/chairs, bed, pull out bed, tv with lots of channels, and a little "closet" area for luggage/storage. It looked like each room had a little deck space with ashtrays and chairs. Free wireless internet. There are so many little, hidden thoughtful items like toothpicks and a bottle opener. in the room, and playing cards in the rec room. I really think they have thought of everything! My only negative critique is that there were no dishes in the room to use. They have done a WONDERFUL job here! Whenever we need place to stay in Monticello, this will be our first choice for sure!

We happened upon The Lighthouse Lodge B&B while doing a Google search for places to stay near Indiana Beach. I hadn't been to the area in over 20 years but we were visiting family in Logansport and thought it would be fun to extend our trip and take our 2 young boys to IN Beach for a couple of days. I am so happy we found this place! From the minute I called to inquire, I knew this was the place for us. Bonnie is so friendly and accommodating. Also, if you think the pictures online look nice, wait until you get there....it's even better in person! We had never stayed at a B&B before and weren't sure if we would like it, but this was definitely a great choice. We stayed in the honeymoon suite (even though we had our 2 young boys with us) and the room was completely beautiful. Very spacious, clean, upscale bath products, linens, etc. Great little balcony with a view of the lake. Couldn't have asked for more. The grounds for the whole property are very well manicured and beautiful. Common areas, such as the rec room, which is where breakfast is served are fantastic and Bonnie is a great cook! Bonnie and Mike treated us as if we were friends instead of guests at the lodge. They have a great little swimming beach which is protected by a pier from the boats passing by. Nice playground on the beach, a little slide in the water, and a water trampoline.....honestly we really didn't need to venture over to Indiana Beach, there was plenty to keep us and our little guys busy right there on the property, which is about 3 miles from the IN Beach boardwalk. Which, by the way, is extremely run down and dirty and in need of a major overhaul. If you're going to be in the Monticello area, spend your time at the Lighthouse Lodge and skip IN Beach......you won't be sorry!
