Recommended length of visit: 1-2 hours
Owner description: opening hours - 10am to 5pm, seven days (closed at Christmas and Good Friday). Features:-Car park, disabled access, children's playground, large viewing deck across our vineyards, coffee/tea/other drinks, platters, great wine. Features-to-come:-Walking trail from cellar door to our wetlands to create an integrated eco-trail experience (with interpretative signage at every stage), chicken coop and vege garden, small orchard. Sustainable elements:-10Kw solar panel system, rainwater tanks, waste water treatment system, the building constructed with recycled and plantation timbers and placed on stumps embedded in the ground for minimal change to the landscape. The dream for Gemtree has long been to develop a cellar door at this location, overlooking their vineyards and wetlands, that could finally convey the Gemtree story and philosophy unabridged. With a desire to farm the grapes and produce the wines with organic and biodynamic principles that would match their own, Mike and Melissa Brown have pushed the brand onto a sustainable platform. This was exemplified in the creation of the Gemtree Wetlands on former dairy farm land and full organic certification for the vineyards. The desire for the new cellar door to reflect this approach has now taken shape on Elliott Road in McLaren Flat. We now look forward to entertaining and educating our visitors, from near and far, on a sustainable approach to producing great wines.

Vineyards and wines are all organic at Gemtree. Take an 800 metre walk around the 'wetlands' by the cellar door and learn about the native trees, birds, frogs and animals of the area. Then move to the cellar doo panoramic view across the McLaren Vale vineyards. Interesting selection of quality wines to taste and buy. Platters of local foods for sale to make the visit complete.

We were directed here by the Visitor Centre at McLaren Vale when we said that we wanted to enjoy a platter with wine and views. Gemtree Vineyards is a small winery with a lovely deck over looking the vineyards. We ordered the large platter which was fantastic and the owner explained to us that it was all local produce. It was ample for lunch and we leisurely sipped wine and enjoyed the views. The small touches here including the lavender products in the bathroom, just add special touches and make this a lovely destination in McLaren Vale.

If McLaren Vale could be described as God's own country, then this is perfect place to experience from both a visual and taste perspective - all while your children are happily entertained within eyesight and earshot on the play equipment.

The view from the cellar door and expansive deck takes in the whole McLaren Vale to the Gulf of St Vincent and Sellicks Hill - just gorgeous.

The charming cellar door manager took us through the delightful variety of wines, shared a few bikkies with the kids. We left with a full box and thoughts that next time we will need to try one of their platters.
