We spent 2 great days at this resort. The gardens are truly fascinating with so much to see. We got up early and had a great tour with Lisel. The ducks being herded to their pond was a great sight to see. The memory of picking and eating figs from the tree will last with me forever.Delicious as well!!! We had a relaxing day in our own courtyard outside our lovely cottage. We took the evening drive up Simonberg mountain for a great sundowner with fantastic views over the whole estate. We had a great dinner in the Babel restaurant. The next day we had a great garden tour followed by wine tasting. The cellar tour was not good as it seemed to be rushed. We had a meal in the Italian restaurant which was a set meal but well served. We also hiked up the Babel hill which gives the resort its name. Great views from the top. Great resort with lots to do. You could spend days just looking round the gardens

We had visited Babylonstoren last year and loved the grounds and decided this year we would stay for a few days. We stayed in a one bedroom cottage which to be honest was very rustic rather than luxurious and a little on the sparse side when it came to towels and toiletries . The fresh fruit however was excellent and replenished daily. The pool situation is not great with the use of the wooden tub pool which has very fews chairs and the spa pool which was indeed very crowded. The grounds and gardens are spectacular , and being able to pick fruit off a tree was fantastic . As a guest staying there , during the day it is over run with visitors which kind of takes the exclusivity away as it really does turn into a tourist attraction- fair enough as i was one of those visitors last year ! No doubt Soho Farmhouse must have taken their inspiration from here , where in my opinion i feel they have got the accommodation right but maybe not the rest of it in terms of an actual working farm with stunning grounds, scenery and really good food. Really enjoyed the wine tasting, which was free for guests and perhaps one of the best food platters i have ever had . If you havent been , i would definitely recommend it .

N-E-V-E-R leave Cape Town without visiting Babylonstoren! This estate features 2 extravagant restaurants, a Scent Room, Wine Tasting room, a Deli with Cheese, Bread and meat to DIE for as well as other high-end products. But NOTHING can compare with their breathtakingly garden. You can get lost there (wich could be a delightfull expierence!). Divine.

We stayed for 3 nights over Christmas 2019 with our twin two year olds.

Positives:
- the gardens are really beautiful
- the pool at the Fynbos Cottages is lovely
- the rooms are large and have a small self catering kitchen (it was not stocked with anything)
- beds were comfortable and the air conditioning / heating very effective

Negatives:
- check in was chaos (no help or details about the property were given)
- the pool at the spa is not suitable for children (but they allow kids and it was overrun - I would have been very disappointed as a spa guest). Both kids got splinters from the wood construction and it was dirty. Luckily one helpful staff member told us about the other pool at the Fynbos cottages, but then we had to fight with staff to use it (despite it being empty)
- the room was not clean - we even found used diapers from the previous family under the bed
- when we booked we were not told the property would be closed on Christmas Day (very unusual for a hotel) with only the usual breakfast time extended slightly. The solution offered by the hotel was that we buy food from their shop and cook, but I would have stayed in a self catered option with a proper kitchen if I had wanted to cook. Despite our asking they did not help to find us a lunch booking somewhere else.
- it was extremely hard to get the hotel to prepare food for the kids or to serve it before 7pm. We don’t understand why they want 2 year olds on Babel at 8pm when everyone else is trying to have a relaxing meal? Lunch was only available with the huge mass of tourist guests and involved a long line to find a table.
- activities were short (7 min bread making) and very busy; with the extreme numbers of day visitors the place was very over crowded
- no accommodation for dietary needs made
- the garden cottage we were allocated had a view of the bus loads of tourists walking around and no garden to speak of (just a small patch of dirt). Everyone was looking into our room which was very strange.
- high chairs were very dirty, no bed rails for kids, etc. The only kids menu is smoked chicken (which they buy ready made) and fries.

We agree with previous reviews about this being a very commercial enterprise. We felt the website was misleading and generally the place lacked the charm we had expected. A day visit would be a better way to experience the property in our view.

It’s also worth noting that while we enjoyed one meal at Babel very much, we were disappointed to find that the menu is very limited (we only had one vegetarian option) and does not change. When we asked for some simple variations to menus they could not be accommodated.

We stayed at Babylonstoren for 4 nights on our honeymoon and I cannot wait to return. We felt really at home here - it was like adult camp with great food and wine.

The staff makes you feel like family, were were addressed by our first names the moment we stepped out of the car and onto the farm. Everyone we met was so friendly - but Jerome was our hero and made our stay that much more incredible. He gave us great advice on wineries in the area, the best place to watch the sunset on the property, and signed us up for classes and activities he thought we might enjoy. When we didn't show up for an activity he knew we were very excited about (we had lost track of time, easy to do at a wonderful place like this) he quickly located us and made sure we were able to participate.

The rooms and spaces around the property were so well appointed - true attention to detail. So many nooks and crannies and landscapes to explore. We loved biking around the property every evening before dinner.

Thank you for creating such a special place!

Room tip: 1 bedrooms are closest to the main hotel/gardens. Fynbos cottages offer more seclusion, they are also stunning and very new.
