First time canoeing at trading post staff was very nice. As far a the river goes it needs a lot of attention in many areas. A lot of trees are down causing to many problems for canoes and kayaks to get through. That was the only down side over then that it was a great trip.

The Pigeon River has become very crowded in recent years. I took my nine year old son on the ten mile trip from Spero Bridge back to the Trading Post on Saturday, August 4, 2018. The river and surrounding environment are beautiful.

As far as a straight paddling experience, there are way too many unexperienced boaters on the water drifting sideways, tied up with other boats in the middle of the river, and partiers obstructing the waterway.

Partiers: I have been to my fair share of 'pothead' parties in my day, but I have never smelled so much marijuana as I did last Saturday on the Pigeon River. I am not a prude, and have no problem with people recreating in their own way. I would not recommend this as a 'family' paddle though.

A group of 6 of us went there to camp for the weekend and kayak. The campground was nice and the security lady was very nice and helpful with our questions. The only issues that seemed to pop up was not enough bathrooms. We camped in the primitive area and there was only 1 port-a-potty, 2 would have been great. Also the main entrance/ exit way would be a smoother flow with a second lane so cars didnt get backed up while people are checking in to camp. Although these 2 issues came up I still feel this place is a great little get away.

We have done this trip the last 4 years with the guys from the office. the ladies at the office have everything ready for you, they walk you though if your a newbie. the guys loading and driving you there are great and friendly, everyone has smiles. then at the end of the long fun day, they are there to help you out of the river. Great time. refuge bridge takes 4-6 hours depending on stops, bring water socks with a good tread. sandals will get lost unless they have a strap around the heal. Fully enclosed sandals will collect rocks in them and drive you crazy. Aqua socks have worked the best, but a good tread is recommended. Bring a dry bag or water proof box for valuables, they will get wet. Do a sit on Kayak or bring your own. Quick drying clothes and swim trunks/suits highly recommended. One Negative. The dreaded Mill Pond. Grueling.

This is our 9th year with friends and were not pleased. Tried checking in and they did not have our clip board our bus was to be leaving soon and I was told to go look for it. Then checked with all our group with different reservations and they did not have the wrong clipboard... so I went back in and they had us sign different papers, not a big deal. Went up to the desk to get wrist bands and then she tried telling me I only had one canoe reserved. Paid 150 something for it all so I new that was incorrect, told her that and then she agreed I did have two... very unorganized this year and not polite. Later went to the office..doors unlocked lights on and sign said they were open so we walked in and she panicked we are closed...no problem us customers with cash will leave, calm yourself. New owners means new workers and a learning process but no reason to be impolite.
