“Clean and Comfortable”
Reviewed July 10, 2010

A very nice updated hotel. The property looks good from the outside and equally nice inside.

Check in was simple and quick. Front desk staff was friendly and asked if i had a preference of floors which is always a nice touch.

The hallways were clean, updated and attractive.

The room was also quite nice. Big comfortable bed with quality bedding. A/C that was up to the task on a very hot day. The living room area had a table and clean couch along with a small kitchenette with a fridge and microwave. The bathroom area was also updated and nice. If i had one slight negative it would be that the towels, washcloths and hand towels were thin and approaching the end of their useful life.

The high speed internet was reliable with mediocre speed but was fine for my needs.

Breakfast in the morning was continental plus with some hot items and was quite good.

This Springhill Suites is a winner.

We stayed one night. Our room was perfect. Super clean, staff was very helpful.
The pool was clean a decent size. We had pizza delivered from Marco's and it was delicious. The breakfast was very generous. Lots to choose from -- fresh fruit, yogurt, oatmeal [yummy], cold cereal, even eggs, waffles and sausage !! We will stay here again. Jodi at the front desk WAS SO HELPFUL !!!

We were in town for a family event. Booked several rooms and they put us all on one floor right next to each other. The suites were nice gathering spot for us at night. Maybe the walls were a little thin but that's why I'm glad we were all next to each other. Place was very clean and staff friendly. The complimentary breakfast was good with variety of juice, waffles, sausage, egg, breads, fruit, yogurt, etc. It does shut down on time so don't be late. There was ample seating for us though the hotel wasn't full this weekend. Right across the street from Meijers (like a Target or Wallmart) with a grocery inside open 24 hours. Hotel had mini market too. Lots of other big box and mall stores right around the corner. Suites were big enough for many of us to gather at night to chat. Our room had a little L shape so that was maybe a little better than than some of the others that were I shaped rooms because it kept our bed area a little private from the seating/kitchen area. Kitchen was great with sink, microwave, fridge, desk. Place and rooms were very clean. Some of the kids used the indoor pool and liked it. Hotel is about 15-20 minutes from most of the things we wanted to do in South Bend/Mishawaka, and only about 10 minutes from Notre Dame. Great place. Would stay there again.

Hotel room was nice and clean. Breakfast was very good. Pool area was too small, though and my kids were unable to swim at times because it was too crowded. The hotel is too large to have such a small swimming pool. The area around the hotel is very good. There's just about every option of food you can imagine. Area is also very nice around hotel. Enjoyed our stay.

We stayed at Springhill Suites for a weekend in what is the center of Mishawaka's shopping district. It is next to a Marriott Courtyard, a Lowe's and across the street from Meijor (Wal-mart like store). In the shopping district there are major retailers like Home Depot, Lowe's, Wal-mart, and others. There are also an abundance of other hotels including several Marriott brands, Choice hotels, among others.

The hotel has a large lobby with a contemporary layout of tile floors, fireplace, and small sitting area that you come to expect in hotels like this. The breakfast area is larger than average with about ten to twelve lage tables. Breakfast included standard fair plus sausage, eggs (discs), and fresh made waffles. In addition to coffeee and 'lipton tea, they provide a variety of celestial seasonings teas. The hotel also had an indoor pool and exercise area.

The room had a nice layout. You enter into a small sitting area with sofa and chair. To the left is a alcove with a desk and work chair, along with a kitchenette area that had a sink, coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave. There was a half wall (half width of room as opposed to height) that separated the King size bed (I refer to as bedroom) from the rest of the room (living room). In between the living room and bedroom spaces was a small cabinet with a TV on top that swiveled so you could watch from the living room or bedroom. Off from the bedroom area was an alcove with sink and doorway to shower/toilet. Of course it also had free wireless which worked flawlessly.

All in all I was impressed with the efficiency of the space. I could get up early and do e-mails in the alcove with desk without disturbing anyone in the same space, just around the corner. Fit and finish was very good. The "half wall" had wooden trim with large crown molding you would not expect to find in the room. There were three large mirrors that were set to be helpful without being intrusive. The furniture was good quality and the bedding was closer to a full serice hotel (i.e. regular Marriott or Hiton).

Some drawbacks: The TV was an old 27 inch CRT with a curved screen and poor reception. I was surprised given the fit and finish of the room and hotel that they would have something this antiquated. The cabinet beneath the TV was the only cabinet in the room and had only two drawers no more than 28 to 39 inches wide. Not nearly enough for an extended weekend for two let alone a week long busness trip or multiple travelers.

It was a good hotel and other than some very minor drawbacks it made for a great weekend.

We have stayed in the area for Notre Dame football games each of the last 4 years, and this hotel is the best one we've tried (see my reviews of Jameson/Signature Inns in South Bend and Elkhart, and the Courtyard by Marriott next door). This time we brought both kids, aged 11 and 8.

Football guests are greeted with a glass of Asti Spumanti and petit fours; like all of the other hotels we've stayed at here, you have to schlep your own luggage - the staff is nice and smiley from behind the desk though! The room is a 'suite' with an armchair, couch, desk and 'kitchen' area (microwave, fridge, coffe/tea setup and supplies, good size counter and sink) on one side, and the beds, sink/vanity area and bathroom on the other. There was a TV in each section, good when travelling with kids!

The furnishings looked brand-new - the tags were still on the extremely-comfortable mattresses! The closet is good sized, and there are three small dressers. The bathroom is actually big enough to move around in, the towels were large and fluffy, and the shower had good water pressure and the temperature stayed consistent even when there must have been a lot of people getting ready at the same time on game day. I appreciated the full array of toiletries (including body lotion, hair conditioner, separate facial and bath soaps)- most of these hotels give you only one tiny bottle of shampoo and one sliver of soap.

Unlike a previous reviewer, I didn't hear any conversations through the walls despite the hotel being full. My only complaint with the room is the heat or A/C fan - when it's on it is LOUD and blows forcefully on whomever is sleeping in the bed closest to the window. There is a digital temp control but nothing to adjust the fan itself - it's either on, off, or "auto" based on temperature.

The indoor pool was chilly (it was not cold that weekend - mid 60's during the day) but my kids didn't mind - the hot tub was great though! The pool area is attractive and seems new or newly renovated with tables and chairs and lots of towels.

The included buffet breakfast is fine, my kids got a big kick out of the waffle irons. They also had "McMuffin" makings, a variety of breads, pastries and cereals, yoghurts, fresh whole and cut fruits. Only downside was the juices were way too sweet - they need to adjust the water/concentrate ratio of the dispenser.

For $239 a night (plus $30 in taxes) I thought it was a much better deal than the Courtyard next door, which three years ago I felt was horrendously overpriced for what you got (maybe they've reduced their prices since then?). I would absolutely choose this hotel over the others I've mentioned, although I'd like to try the new Hilton at St. Mary's but not for football ($1,000 for the weekend!).

The room service menu looked interesting - a local wine and tapas restaurant supposedly provides in-room waiter service! However we needed kid-friendly food quickly so we just got takeout from the Papa Vino's across the driveway and it was very good.

Feel free to email me with any questions! Go Irish!!

A decent and new hotel in a nice area, surrounded by good choices of dining and shopping. My only concerns were with the quality of the construction and the design of the room. I was distrurbed to hear a normal telephone conversation from the room next door. Not only could I hear someone speaking at a normal conversation voice, I could undertstand the entire converssation through the wall. Obviously, there is not insulation sufficient enough between the rooms. The room also had a strange design, with the desk at the front of the room facing a wall instead of in view of the TV. The batchroom is in the rear righthand corner of the room and there is a lot of wasted space that could have been used elsewhere in the room. There is one TV between the couch area and the bed, on a nightstand that does not swivle and does not face either the couch or the bed. Just seems like not a whole lot of thought went into the layout of the rooms at this facility.
