“amish style eats a treat”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 30, 2010

lovely restaurant where you don't need a reservation if you stay in conference center motel next door-a lovely place, too! meal is AYCE, served family style. all the trimmings $15.50 and 2 meats $16.50. we had baked steak and fried chicken. chicken is the basic meat that comes w every order and you choose the second meat. we did not go wrong w the baked steak. the pot roast also looked great, but the people sitting next to us and also the waitress suggested the salisbury steak and it was fantastic. the food is hot and they don't hesitate to bring what you desire. meal includes meat, noodles, dressing, beans or corn, buns, salad, mashed pot and gravey (be fore-warned...these are not real and the only part of the meal that was bad). includes drink and you can mix and match those. also, includes 1 dessert and those are the best part of the meal. we had sugar free coconut cream, raisin pie, choc raspberry and banana choc. all were fantastic. we would eat here again in a heartbeat (and have, many times). it's my son's favorite restaurant when he isn't on a diet. my husband is never happy that the mashed potatoes (his favorite food) are thin and watery and just not real. the only reason we can't give a 5-star. sorry, essenhaus. you need to fix this one thing.

“THE BEST RESTAURANT IN AMISH COUNTRY!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2010

This restaurant is spectacular. Everything is homemade -- I never knew food could taste so incredibly fresh. I have never eaten in a restaurant where the food was so good. Served family-style, the broasted chicken, homemade stuffing, potatoes, homemade bread, and huge variety of homemade pies made from scratch left everyone overwhelmed. Service was excellent and timely as well! There are also many intriguing shops located on the premises and in the restaurant! This is a MUST!!!!!!!

“Great experience - best chicken ever!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2010

Family-style where they pass big bowls of side around with a lareg platter of 1 (or more) meats - the "broasted" chicken is mandatory!! I don't even like fried chicken & it was the best thing ever. Family-style is all inclusive including dessert - they are famous for their pies (for a good reason). One of the best meals I've ever had - simple, country cooking!

“Ouch”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2010

Greasy food, not even one healthy choice. The place smells greasy from a distant. Nothing there is home made! If it is than it is a very poorly home made food. If we had other choices, we would have walked away but unfortunately, Middlebury is a small town with no choices. Having said that, if this is your type of gourmet, you will love it.
