“Very good place for home cooking”
Reviewed July 4, 2008

We ate dinner there and it was great. The service was friendly and great. I had chicken pot pie and i know it was homemade the crust was flaky. Husband had noodles and beef and a apple dumpling. We liked it so much we drove back for lunch. Wonderful home cooking.

Plus they have a huge shopping area and bakery. I bought cheese and a few other items.

When we went back for lunch. There was a lady signing her prints of Amish life. We bought one and she signed it for 14.99.

If i was on vacation i would love to stay in the hotel and shop and eat more.

“The Essen Haus was not good.”
Reviewed June 24, 2008

The price was right, The service was good.
But, the chicken was very greasy.
Also, the pie made me feel ill.
They don't use butter in their crust. The crust was tasteless and has the consistency of cardboard.
The banana cream pie tasted very strange indeed and so did the German chocolate cake pie.
The mashed potatoes tasted to be from a mix.
The sweet and sour salad dressing was good.
In brief, we felt it was very dissapointing.

“The best food we had while in Indiana!”
Reviewed May 27, 2008

This was definitely the highlight of our trip to Shipshewana. The restaurant was beautiful with plenty of seating and everyone was very nice. The food was unbelievable and everyone talked about it for days (the roast beef and beef & noodles were raved about the most). Not only was the food great, but their pies are second to none too. Even though we are from out of state, I can see us visiting here again for sure.
