We love to come to the Essenhaus and always come this time of year to shop and just relax.

Our room was very very clean and the inn as a whole was beautiful. They have their Christmas trees up and it was very nice.

My only negative comment was that our room is starting to show signs of wear and tear. Wallpaper, especially in the bathroom, is peeling and needs replaced.

We will continue to come here whenever we can.

Second time staying at the Essenhaus Inn in 25 years. Even though they added more rooms, it still have the feel of a quaint country Inn.
We were disappointed with all the stains on the carpet in our room, otherwise the room was clean.

We had never been to Middlebury which is only about 8 miles from Shipshewana. I found this hotel on Trip Advisor and gave it a try. Very nice hotel. Has it's own conference center, restaurant, shopping, bakery, miniature golf, buggy rides and more. We were in town for a play and comedy show. The room was very quiet and comfortable. They have a second floor where they serve breakfast which is the usual fair, nothing to write home about. The second floor has rooms too. The front desk staff was very nice, answered all of our questions and gave us some hints as to when to come back. We hope to bring our grandchildren back next spring. We hope to do the buggy rides, miniature golf, swimming pool and anything else we might be interested in.
I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay when in the area.

Room tip: Either floor would be okay.

Loved our one-night visit! King bed was unavailable. Husband & I got a standard room w/ 2 queens. Very clean. Quiet. Pretty décor. Had a feeling of "home". Comfortable bed! Nice staff. Lovely grounds. We enjoyed the nearby shops. Ate dinner at the Essenhaus restaurant; not the BEST place we've eaten at, but home-cooked and good. The hotel price was very acceptable to us - certainly comparable to other "chain" hotels that we stay at when taking a trip. We heard some kind of fan noise during the night, but it didn't disrupt sleep. Weren't thrilled w/ the breakfast, but it was fine - definitely an assortment of things. There didn't seem to be a lot of other things to do in town. But the hotel stay was worth our visit to Middlebury!!

We stayed here 9/8/15 at the beginning of our annual fall trip. The room was outstanding, clean, and very roomy. In fact, we hated to leave to continue on our set schedule. The country decorations were fabulous. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The garden staff get high marks for a beautiful setting. We have decided to make it a point to return to the area and stay at Essenhaus Inn again.

Room tip: Ask for a room with a view of lake.
