Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa
Ranked #3 of 16 Hotels in Michigan City
Reviewed November 30, 2009

Just got back from the Blue Chip today.
My travel background >>> I travel 2-3 times yearly (Caribbean, Vegas, etc)
The good:
- nice tiled shower, decent room
- Looks great from the outside
- staff was friendly
- Deli and buffet were good
The bad
- The bed sheets were like sandpaper
- The walls were super thin. We could hear every conversation next door and in the hall
- We listened to the hallway door squeak (there is a hallway door to access the the rooms) and open and slam both nights keeping us up (we went to bed around 1am both nights)...... and the conversations in the hallway were like they were right next to us
- the Casino was ok. Like a typical downtown Vegas casino, only smaller.
- Strange problem - When your in certain parts of the casino, when your playing the slots, if anybody walks by your chair shakes like it will fall over. It happens on both sides of the casino. Didn't bother me too much, I thought it was funny, but a couple of elderly players moved because of their safety concerns. For the record, it's distracting but I think it's safe.
It's only 15-20 minutes from the Four Winds Casino in Michigan, which was a much better casino. The Four Winds was larger, better slot choices, more tables, and everybody was friendly. Overall the hotel/casino was ok (although my wife said she would never go back) but I wouldn't recommend it.

Stayed at the Blue Chip Thursday Nov 12, 2009. We booked a room in the new Blue Spa Tower. Had read some mixed reviews and did not know what to expect but the room was excellent. Very clean and spacious. As the hotel is quite new, everything was in great shape. The staff at check in and check out was friendly, efficient and professional. The atttendant at the elevator provided security and helped with the elevators. All in all, it was a great value for the money, and a very nice place to stay.

I expected so much more than this. The room we got was VERY overpriced(especially since we were gambling)...but we figured it would be a very nice room, especially since it is fairly new and on the 14th floor and a "solarium" room.....very disappointing. The room looked like it was decorated with trailer furniture...nasty spots on the couch(I don't even want to know what that was). The bathroom had the dimmest lighting I have ever seen in a hotel bathroom(and for us women who apply make-up....this is a HUGE faux pas).....in short, not a lot of value for all of the money we spent.
The only good thing I could say was that the bed was comfortable.

We have been watching the construction of this hotel and were eagerly anticipating staying here. When it opened, we made reservations in a suite overlooking Lake Michigan. What a view! The room itself is beautiful with a gorgeous bathroom. We stayed the night of the NCAA semi finals and had a great time in the Sports Bar. Then, we did a little gambling and enjoyed listening to the music in Rocks Lounge. Great mini vacation and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking one!

This was our first trip to the Casino and Hotel. I wasn't to sure what to expect. We usually go to Vegas.
It was very nice, clean and comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised.
I would recommend to anyone!

Wanted a weekend escape so we visited Blue Chip Hotel and Casino. This was a Labor Day weekend so it was busy. The service was excellent and the room was above average. We stayed in the original tower and all the rooms have been recently upgraded -- new LCD TV, furnishings, bedspreads etc. The bathroom is great with the latest decor. The views are nothing to speak of because after all this is Michigan City -- not Las Vegas. The breakfast buffet was satisfactory and the coffee shop/deli had great selections -- the cookies were great as was the coffee and pastries. We never had any security concerns. The Sports Bar is excellent for food and entertainment. There was music over the weekend in the bar adjacent to the casino. The tables in the casino were packed and it was difficult to get a position at the craps table and blackjack. They have the latest and greatest slots. Washington Park is 5 minutes away and there is a great beach there along Lake Michigan. we let the attendant park our car. Picking it up is very convenient with little waiting time. The 2 nights we spent there was just the right amount of time.
