We discovered this "hidden" gem winery about two years ago, and have visited four or five times since then.

Wonderful minimalist building with much photography and artwork. Reminds you of an open, airy wooden lodge, with a upstairs balcony overlooking the tasting area. Screened in "porch" area, with tables, out back overlooking a small pond. Adirondack chairs and rockers out on the front entrance area.

All-in-all a very relaxing and laid-back ambiance even before you get to the wine tastings - five free tastings of white and red, dry to semi-sweet, (the Dry Riesling is particularly good). Laid-back music (solo guitarist, who mingles and talks with the guests), 1 - 4 on Sundays during the Summer (Fall, Winter), yes you feel more like a guest rather than a customer?

The staff are particularly friendly, informative about the wine, as well as the general Michigan City area attractions - which are many. The staff can also be very funny (as in joking) when they are not too busy. Wines by the bottle or glass on and around the grounds.

Apparently there are catered wine pairing dinners under a tent outdoors on occasion, though we have not attended one. A good variety of small plates, (various cheeses, crackers, fruit, hummus, et al.) otherwise. A pleasant crowd in attendance, though not overly crowded together, tables, chairs, couches well-placed throughout the building, including the balcony.

A charming and friendly place, with a good ambiance.

Thank Paukey

Ok, ok...another winery. Quite a few of them about 30 minutes east. All of them capitalizing on the daytrips of west suburban Chicago moms. So, they can all get away charging $9-15 dollars a bottle for their local wines. Would these same women get together for a day trip to Meijers and pay $5 for a "tasting experience?"

Since this reviewer really didn't have any specific information about Shady Creek Winery, let me add some color. Our wines range from $12 to $33 dollars per bottle, some of our fruit is actually from well known grape growing regions that you won't find at the local Meijer store for $5. Our tastings are complimentary and we offer food plates that pair with wines and entertainment on Sundays...not sure Meijer offers that either. In addition, our facility looks nothing like a Meijer store:-D

Comfortable, relaxed and friendly with a nice selection of wine and wine drinker accessories! I came here for a Cancer Society Benefit and never realized such a nice place was right down the road from me. There are several seating areas that are sure to please everyone.

Love that the tasting of 5 wines was free, but not one piece of information was offered about the wines. It seemed like some associates were more engaged, but we couldn't even get our associate to talk. I was expecting an experience, and it was not like an east coast winery.

We take each customer experience very seriously, our large sign at the entrance pleads for guests to ask for an owner if their experience was not of high quality as that is the only way we can improve our service. We will try harder.

Very neat winery and excellent personal service.

Try 5 wines for Free. Bottles for sale around $14 each.

If you are in the area, check it out!
