We had a ground floor room with refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker, newly remodeled tile floor and walls in the bathroom, and two queen beds. The place was well maintained and very clean. We really enjoyed the expansive view of the Ohio River. You could either sit on the grassy area there or on tables outside of the restaurant. Some rooms have balconies or patios facing the river. Very conveniently located to everything in the park including the trails, and it is next door to the Nature Center. There is a nice sized indoor pool on the premises. The restaurant serves down-home comfort foods (the buffet is a good deal at $12.99 and the 55-and-older senior breakfast menu is economical) and they have tea and coffee available 24 hours. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The restaurant staff even went out of their way to make us something special that was no longer on the menu.

Room Tip: If you enjoy having a good view from your room, ask for one that faces the river. Top floor rooms h...

Clifty Falls State Park is one of many places that prove the geographical diversity of a state much maligned as flat and boring. See four different waterfalls here when there's been enough rain to swell the creeks. The inn, one of a group of excellent Hoosier state park hotels, is the perfect home base to explore the park and nearby Madison, a tiny town with a large National Historic Landmark District. The inn overlooks the Ohio River, and from its east wing the view is beautiful. One morning, fog covered everything below us, and it was as though we were floating in a cloud! Unfortunately, a large coal-fired power plant is directly in front of the inn on the west side, so beware its beclouding your view with three giant smokestacks. (No troubling smoke, but the view reminds you that you really haven't gotten away from "civilization.")

If this isn't the honeymoon suite (Room #221), it could be with the shower for two and the whirlpool for two.

There is a full sofa, chair, ottoman, end table with lamp, floor lamp, desk/chair/lamp, television and DVD player, and clock in the 'living room.'

The kitchen offers a mini frig, microwave, sink, coffee/tea-making facilities, table and chairs, and table service inluding plates, bowls, cups, glasses, and silverware.

The bed is queen size and the bedroom also has a rocking chair and television and one nightstand with lamp, but no clock.

The suite offers two locations for hanging clothes and two telephones and adequate lighting. Our only problem is the noisy heat/ac units...one in the main area and one in the bedroom.

As this hotel is in a state park, there are so many things to see and do: hiking trails, outdoor pool, playground, picnic areas, as well as game boards, conversation areas, indoor pool, arcade and 24-hour coffee available. The restaurant offers items from the menu as well as buffets when there are enough overnight guests.

NB. If you want to see the falls, the Hoffman Falls is not visible from the overlook; you must walk the trail. The "overlook" does offer a view of Clifty Falls but it is not a close-up view. The north parking lot offers wheelchair access to the main waterfall. One tree needs to be cut down (probably won't happen in a state park) because it partially blocks the view of the falls. There is a trail to the falls and you can walk under them if you are aware of the potential danger.

Room Tip: Room 221 has to be the honeymoon suites.

Spent the weekend at Clifty while visiting the Madison Riverroots Music Fest on the Ohio River. 5 minutes to the hotel from the festival, cant beat that! Staying allowed us to stay both nights late and arrive early on Saturday. Fun weekend, great music, nice park

Room Tip: air conditioner was a bit loud! if possible chose the river view section..but it will be a bit more...

We took the kids, ages 14 and 11, here for a mini vacation after spending the day in Louisville. The hotel and accommodations were great and the view was spectacular.(We had a river view room with balcony) Make sure you go hike to the falls, you will not be disappointed. Be forewarned though, if you go during peak season they double the rates. If you don't mind the cold outdoors they have great rates during the fall/winter. Pool was nice and not too deep if you have small children, however we were disappointed to see that they removed the hot tub. Overall we had a great time, wasn't too crowded and felt very secure. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Choose a river view room and watch the barges go by!

Clifty Inn is really a beautiful hotel, but the park side rooms are not so great. My husband, son, and I stayed a weekend for a wedding. We chose the park side rooms because they were cheaper and we weren't going to be in it much. We ended up wishing we had purchased a river view suite, but couldn't switch because they were all booked up. There is no elevator on the park side and it is very outdated and musty smelling. The floors were not clean in our room, especially under the beds. The air conditioning unit is in the room above the bed and is very VERY noisy and kept waking us all (including my 5 month old baby) up during the night. The hotel itself was very neat with all kinds of cool decor inside. The restaurant was delicious and reasonably priced. The views are beautiful, unless you were in our room which had a view of the parking lot. We would like to go back some time and explore Madison, but we will definitely be staying in a pricier riverside room.

Room Tip: Stay away from the parkside. Pay the extra money, we regretted it.
