We go to Brookville Lake many times during the summer and we have dinner at Ainsley's Cafe often! Ainsley's never disappoints. From the service to the food, they are fantastic! We love to sit out on the deck and see the boats and the lake. It appears they have many college age servers/employees and they are all very polite. Food is always delicious! I would definitely recommend Ainsley's!

Another pleasant late summer afternoon spent on the awning-shaded deck of Ainsley's Cafe' overlooking Brookville Lake, allowed my mind & spirit to 'float'. A tasty salad topped with grilled salmon & a cool beverage of choice was the ideal way to spend a couple of hours watching the sailboats & marine craft on the lake. Ainsley's Cafe' provides an extensive menu from hamburgers to shrimp to pasta. The onion straws are a sinful treat. Several diet-shattering desserts are available, too. Prices are moderate, service is usually quite efficient. The interior of Ainsley's is a homey, easy-going atmosphere with lots of additional seating options. Mary, the manager, has great 60's oldies playing (at a civil volume!) to spark a little toe tapping in those of us who still remember the lyrics! One caution: steep stairs lead from the parking lot down to the restaurant. Could be an issue for some.

For so long, I have felt Ainsley's is over-rated. It is fine for lunch, and dinners are at the most mediocre...yet all of us locals continue to go there....since there aren't many choices in this area. The food is not bad...just nothing special. The service is always good, and eating on the deck overlooking the lake is a wonderful view. It is a good choice for a get together, since there aren't really any other places comparable, but if you do want to chat- you may need to opt to eating on the deck and not inside. The acoustics are horrible, making conversations indoors difficult.

We’re by now familiar with certain Visa television commercials in which various attractions are cost evaluated component by component. The human interest tag line is usually designed to tug at the heart strings with the pronouncement “priceless”. To some degree that is also the thought which arises when dining at Ainsley’s Café and Harbor Bar on Brookville Lake in central eastern Liberty, Indiana. Ainsley’s Café is one of several restaurants owned by Richmond restauranteurs and a favorite dining destination by folks in the area. The vista is priceless.

Brookville Lake was created by the Corps of Army Engineers in 1974 for flood control and storm water management purposes. At one end of the lake is a towering dam. Around the expansive shoreline of this 5,260 acre lake with 25 miles of hiking trails are various marinas and boat launch sites, two State recreation areas and scenic outlooks. Ainsley’s Café sits high on a bluff overlooking a broad expanse of the lake. Diners can sit inside the restaurant or on the outside awning shaded deck. From the deck, one can see a diversity of recreational boat and fishing activity or enjoy the picturesque Sausalito Bay-like imagery of moored houseboats and other recreational motor craft below. It’s not noisy at all. In fact, outside dining is mostly quiet and serene with occasional and much appreciated onshore breezes and gusts of wind.

The menu is diverse with many meat, chicken, seafood, and salad entrée selections to choose from. Dining at Ainsley’s would typically fall into the “$$” category when describing menu price ranges. The food is delicious, however, and well worth the visit.

After or before eating, one can saunter around the area taking photographs of various portions of the lake from different vantage points or mosey along a path at marina level. Some of the paved pathways have a slight incline to them, so diners with walking disabilities would be well advised to know their physical comfort level before taking a stroll.

Ainsley’s Café and Harbor Bar is a great stop-over for lunch and dinner, strategically sited with commanding views of this huge 8.2 square mile lake, and well worth the drive to enjoy its excellent cuisine.
