Description: We are a mid-sized brewpub located in the heart of historic downtown Lafayette, IN, and just minutes from the campus of Purdue University. Our family friendly environment features a large dining area. We also have a spacious bar and comfortable banquet facility in our 2nd floor Beer Hall for the 21+ crowd. We were the 1st brewery to receive Indiana's small brewers permit back in 1993, and are currently the 2nd oldest operating brewery in the state. Our brewery philosophy is to brew traditional ale & lager styles while incorporating high quality ingredients and innovative practices to create a distinctive array of beers. Our kitchen focuses on generous portions of unique pub fare, and we feature quality, locally-produced ingredients whenever practical. Stop by and experience a bit of Indiana's craft brewing history. We hope to see you soon!

“Fresh Beer Accompanied by Really Decent Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2013

We admit that we like beer, especially fresh beer brewed from custom ingredients and served straight from the barrel. This happened to be our second visit to this downtown business and we traveled miles (from central Minnesota, would you believe?) to be there that day. About 5 beers & ales and a seasonable brew were available. Unfortunately, they were sold out of their flagship IPA which, our server related, LBC cannot keep in stock for longer than a week. The sandwich menu was varied, creative, and historically very tasty. We selected their fancy, seasonal porter, named “Marley” (no connection to the Charles Dickens character). Rich and flavorful, it went well with our spicy meat sandwich. Only pleasant memories remain. Back in MN as we wrote this, we beheld our empty Growler and remembered a happy time in a comfortable place. We will return if ever we have the chance.

“Brews new and trendy”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

Big portions on food, interesting crowd, live music on occasion, interesting decor. Women's restroom needs a lot of work. Hard to get food served in the bar when it's off-hours. Hard to get the bill and change once you pay. The beer is a strong draw, made by a local atisanal brewery. Clever names for the beers.

“Some excellent beer.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2013

Some of the food is great, like the burger and the pork BBQ, and have never had bad food there. The beer is good for a micro brewery and some of seasonals are inspired genius, specifically one called Pajama Boy Rye, which is awesome. It's good to have local flavor, and this is it.

“Not your typical appetizers!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

This was a great stop for mid-afternoon appetizers. Homemade brews were excellent. We split orders of superb Scotch Eggs and Bavarian Beer Nuggets. (Items you typically don't find on menus, and far from typical fare.) We loved them both and were quite satisfied. Service could have been more attentive. I would like to return to try other items.

“Felt ill after eating here”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

I had the beer sampler, as did three others in my group, you know, since this was a micro brewery and all. Everyone unanimously agreed the beers were terrible. Three of us couldn't stomach finishing the samplers. I have never had a problem finishing a beer before.

The food: I ordered French onion soup and the brisket sandwich. Soup was nothing special but the sandwich was brutal! Words like "tender" and "top cut sour dough" bun got my attention on the menu. Thoughts like "this meat is tough" and "this bun is a regular processed bread bun and is disgusting" entered my mind while eating it. I'll admit the price is reasonable but does that account for low quality food? The potato chips on the plate were tasty and seemed homemade.

Decor is a little low brow for a brew pub. A fresh remodel would make the space less grimy seeming. The servers were great and efficient.

However, we couldn't get out of there fast enough. I felt ill afterward and was angry this restaurant was my choice for the group to visit that night. Reviews are important, I'll be sure to check others people's experiences and recommendations before deciding on a place to eat tonight.

My recommendation is to skip this spot and be prepared to pay more money for good food somewhere else in Lafayette.
