Had dinner at Grindstone Charlies with two colleagues on a business trip to Purdue University. Overall the restaurant proved to be pretty much what I expected, similar in quality to a Chili's or TGIF's, probably a bit better than an Applebee's.
We ordered the Fried Green Tomatoes appetizer, which had a very nice sauce but the tomatoes were too thick and not crispy enough for me. A colleague ordered the fish and chips, which she described as exactly what she expected - not great, not bad, pretty average.
Where this restaurant excelled was in the preparation of the fried pork tenderloin sandwich - oh, I wish I could get that sandwich here in Florida. Delicious! Crispy, hot, tender and juicy pork tenderloin served on a bun with choice of starch (tater tots - YAY!). If I were going to rate the restaurant on this one plate - it would definitely earn 5 stars!
But the other items we ordered did not knock off anyone's socks, and we never seemed to be on the same wavelength as our waitress - had sort of a weird vibe going on.
In any case, you can have an OK meal at Grindstone Charlies at a good price. And you can do much better than that if you order the pork tenderloin.
