We decided to go to the home of the "red hot" and we were not disappointed. Jill, owner, actually gave the 4 of us a private tour (we arrived between tours). She was so kind, gave us samples and talked about the history. Yes, we walked out with $40 of candy and chocolates. It made it home safely and we are enjoying it all.

If you ever wanted to step into the candy store from the original Willie Wonka, this is as close as it comes. The Schimpff family has been running their candy factory for over 100 years and they do it the old fashioned way - hand dipped and hand cranked.

The store portion has a real soda fountain and snack bar with hundrads of delicious candies on display to choose from. If you are not sure if you want to purchace a particular flavor, don't be surprised if they give you a sample. Personally, their turtles are the best I have ever had and their lemon drops are addicting.

In the back is the candy factory where you can see a live demonstration of verious candies being cooked, mixed, and made ready for packaging. They were making red hots the day we were there and they passed out warm samples to try. You are given a brief history of the factory, the candy demonstration, and optional tour of the museum. The whole tour lasts about an hour and is free.

This is a must-do for visitors and locals. Although Saturday is a good bet, make sure to call ahead and find out if they are making any candy that day or offering tours. They will make candy especially for you if you call ahead and ask for a demonstration. Check out their website to get your mouth watering!
