Our family of six (kids ages 8-13) enjoyed an excellent lunch thanks to TA's ratings. Po-boys and stews include unlimited sides of red beans and rice, delicious cornbread, spicy creole sauce, tasty etoufee, Cole slaw, and bread pudding. The po-boys are large with generous filling portions. We tried the beef and pork. Shrimp wasn't available. Both were excellent (but messy due to the large amount of sauce). The chicken chili frito pietas a delicious concoction of cornbread topped with spicy bean and chicken chili with fritos and cheddar cheese sprinkled on top. Service was fast and friendly. Kids menu is offered. We will return if we are in the area.

What can I say that other reviewers haven't already said? This is my favorite restaurant in Indy, and I'll tell you why. First, it's locally owned, which is really important to me. Second, the food is amazing. They've got a large selection of always-delicious cajun favorites and a variety of daily specials. Their presence on Facebook is informative (telling you what the day's specials are) and entertaining (who doesn't love Papa's jokes??)

I dream about their pork po'boys. Nom, nom, nom. Their cheesy etoufee is out of this world. And their crab cakes are made from heaven. All their seafood is sourced from fisherman families that Papa and Mama Roux know personally. The same can be said for all their cajun sausages (I recommend all of them!)

The next time you're on the East Side, you *must* stop in for lunch (or dinner on Friday nights). In fact, you should make a special trip to the East Side just to eat at Papa Roux. It's that good.

Yes, I am biased. You will be too once you try these guys out. From the moment you walk up to the screen door, smells and sounds overtake you. You place your order at the counter, and the person on the other side will make it a point to help you choose something if Cajun is a new thing for you. If you are a regular, you will be greeted by name. The staff are all friendly, even when they are swamped. If that weren't enough, Papa himself will make the rounds to be sure that you are enjoying your experience.
While you wait for your food to come out, feel free to draw on the walls. It's allowed, as long as you can find an empty piece of wall and you keep it clean.
There are some items that I haven't tried yet due to allergies, but what I have eaten is yummy!
The price is more than what you might pay at some of the other local cajun places, but the quality of the experience at Papa Roux is worth the extra buck or so. Consider though, that while you are dining in, the sides have unlimited refills. The seafood is not shipped in from overseas, it is caught fresh by the Zirlott family way down south. The Papa Roux family is big on supporting Mom & Pop business, and in return, local businesses support Papa Roux.
This is a place that truly cares about the people it serves. They take measures to keep the food vegetarian-friendly, but are easily able to satisfy the meat-eaters.
I wish that I could tell you what the best dish is, but I can't. I love the Cajun Chicken Chili Frito Pie (and yes, it's as much of a mouthful to eat as it is to say!). I think I probably get the etouffee with some chicken tossed in for good measure. Everyone who eats there has their own favorite.
This is a small place, and they do all that they can to accomodate.
My only complaint is that I am typically limited to getting there on Friday night for dinner or Saturday for lunch. They are closed on Sunday & Monday. They are only open to serve the lunch crowd on Tuesday - Thurdsay and Saturday. Friday is the only day that they are open for both lunch and dinner.
If you are looking for authenticity, this is it.
