“Unique Theatre and Cutting-Edge Performances”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2014

In a town that sees half a dozen productions of Annie and Oklahoma each year, the Phoenix Theatre is a breath of fresh air. I've seen dozens and dozens of shows here and you never know exactly what to expect. They offer world premiers, shows strat from off-Broadway and more. There's always something new and the content leaves you thinking about it for days. For those of us who tire of seeing the same big musicals each year, the Phoenix is a treat!

“A gem of a theater in the Mass Ave Arts District.”

This small old church has been converted into an intimate live theater space. I can't say enough about the quality of the productions presented here.

“Edgy and Authentic”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2014 via mobile

We have been going to the Phoenix for 4 years. We have NEVER been disappointed. Every production is well done. Brian Fonseca is not afraid to introduce new plays to the Indianapolis area or to address difficult contemporary issues via the plays that he produces. The actors are professional and dedicated to their craft. The theatre has two stages, one very small with table seating and a slightly larger area with traditional theatre seating. This is a true jewel in the city of Indianapolis. Do not go if you are unwilling to face difficult topics or here bad language.

“Consistently great local theater”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2013 via mobile

I've been attending productions here for a number of years, and have not seen one miss yet! The acting is consistently superb, and the shows selected are top notch. I just saw the 8th annual holiday program (A Very Phoenix X-Mas) today and loved it! The more serious offerings that I've really enjoyed recently have included Next to Normal, Love, Loss and What I Wore, and Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. We are really fortunate to have a theater and talent like this in Indy.

There are two theaters in the building; the larger one features traditional stadium style seating, but is still small enough to ensure an intimate atmosphere and absolutely no bad seats. The downstairs is very small, with cabaret style seating. Both are open seating, so if you're with a group and want it sit together, it's best to arrive at least 30 min before showtime. Tickets are extremely affordable; $28 regular price and $18 the first weekend of most shows.

Parking is wherever you can find it on the street, but is usually not a problem; just allow a little extra time if there is a big show going on at the Old National Center (Murat Theater).

A show here is a great outing with friends, and also a great place to take folks from out of town who might think there is nothing to do in Indy.

“Great place to see a play”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

This intimate theater is just off Mass Ave and is a great place to see a play. I have seen comedies here becasue who doesn't need a good laugh now and then. And, they always make me laugh! You can even have a glass of wine while you watch the play!
