“Nice Meal with Friends”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

Extremely friendly staff. Quaint decor.

The food gets mixed reviews. The pickled beets and other starters were uniformly good. The mashed potatoes and gravy, corn and beans were good "Home Cooking Style" items.

All four in our group choose the combination dinner for the entree. This included 2 pieces of chicken (light or dark meat), 3 large shrimp and a 4oz beef tenderloin. I choose the dark chicken. The shrimp and beef were excellent. The friend chicken was the letdown. Very bland and greasy.

The ice cream sundae's were a nice ending to the meal. One of our group choose the raspberry sherbert with some kind of nuts and said it was excellent.

“Comfort Food”

This is a terrific place to get a wonderful family style meal. The fried chicken is wonderful, and the side items remind me of grandma's cooking.

Food is average. Homestyle setting. Good for what it is. Nice place to treat co-workers for holiday dinner.

“Best Value in America”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

Ample free self-parking, beautiful view surrounded by greenery, old-world charm inside 1870 mansion immaculately preserved with all the updated comforts you'd expect in a fine restaurant, friendly and attentive service, virtually all tables have a window view, house specialty fried chicken although ample selection of fish and beef. Fried chicken dinner for $17.95 includes at least four pieces of perfectly cooked chicken cut and personally prepared at the restaurant, mashed potatoes and white farmhouse gravy, delicious green beans, corn, homemade biscuits, thick apple butter, wedge lettuce salad with specialty flavored vinegar housemade dressing, cottage cheese, tiny pickled beets, choice of beverage with free refills, and sherbet or make-your-own sundae--all inclusive and served family style. MUST APPRECIATE INDIANA HOME COOKING TO LOVE THIS JEWEL! If you want a grilled cheese with fries, go elsewhere; if you want a hamburger, go elsewhere; if you want to spend a lot of money, go elsewhere!
