“First (but not last) time we'll visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2013

Stumbled on this gem while looking at the "Things to Do in Indy" calendar; fantastic talent and audience was great as well. We saw the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz perform and they put on a great show. Guest performers were Antonio Hart and Lisa Henry who were incredibly talented as well. We went for the show (not dinner) and had the white chocolate blueberry bread pudding and a coffee drink. Both very good. There is a $10 cover but that may be waived if you have dinner? (not sure)

“Indy Jazz, A++”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

Not my first visit - but just had another enjoyable evening at The Jazz Kitchen last Saturday night, so wanted to write a review. Brenda Williams was fantastic, a world-class musician, (she's been the opening act for Ray Charles, The Beach Boys, Chuck Mangione, just to name a few), what a great voice, great repertoire - from standards, reggae, soul, and much more, loved her humor, just a joy to see and hear, and the band was so much fun to listen to as well. Loved their interaction, their solos - huge talent!

We went to the early seating and stayed through. When we made our reservation we hadn't realized that the early cover charge took care of the whole evening as there were two times and two cover charges listed for reservations: 7:00 ($12) and 9:30 ($10); was so glad we didn't have to leave after the first set!

During the evening Brenda asked some girlfriends in the audience to come up and sing with her, what a treat! Really great music and such a wonderfully intimate venue to hear talented jazz musicians. The food was good, too. A++

“Great Jazz”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

There is no better venue to see and hear jazz musicians in the city. The owner, David Allee, has worked very hard to develop a world-class repertoire of musicians, including Chucho Valdes, Stanley Clarke, Kurt Elling, etc. The room is so small and intimate, that you are literally a few feet from legends. The menu is not great, but it is certainly more than adequate, given that its primary focus is great music.

“Still good food, but...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 18, 2013

3.5. We have gone twice now but unfortunately our trips are determined by when we happen to be passing through town. The food is still very good here and you get really good portion sizes. The band and the vibe this time were very poor however. My wife and I were there Friday 02/15 and paid $26 just to walk in and see a guitar player that not only wasn't good but did not mesh with the house players what so ever. My wife really likes Jazz so I try to indulge her, but we may only consider coming back for the food when there is no cover to come in.

“Fat Tuesday at the Jazz Kitchen”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

Enjoyed Fat Tuesday at The Jazz Kitchen. The cover charge of $15 was steep. The hurricanes were weak so we switched to bottle beer ( no draft) The shrimp boil and crab cakes were excellent. The band Half Brass was very good.
