“It's One Of 'Those' Places!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

It's one of those places that you go not only for the fine dining, but for the overall experience. Five us went and were given a great table in a quiet part of the restaurant, with a great sidewalk view. Out waiter was fantastic. The steaks and lobster tails were great, as was the soup, shrimp cocktails, side dishes and desserts. No one had a complaint.

It's not cheap, but well worth it.

“Must stop when in Indy”
Reviewed August 26, 2013 via mobile

You have heard national figures talk about the place and there is a reason. The food is amazing. The atmosphere is great. The servers are always amazing and attentive. Make sure you try the shrimp cocktail. It is literally "world famous".

“Loud, Very Loud!”
Reviewed August 25, 2013 via mobile

Thankfully I do not need auditory function to write this review; they have been at least temporarily diminished by an extremely loud Sunday night crowd at this local favorite! An attractive air accompanies this Indy institution, but it all stops there. Wine ordered which has price steps to accompany earlier vintage choices did not reflect the inverse decrease for out of stock years replaced by later year only availability. (The wine steward has Sundays off so no possible discussion could ensue... True, another choice option could be made, with first pour by desert?). Steaks are done to order but with too much salt. Timing for delivery of meals is off, and side dishes quite average. Our wait person Glenn, was one of the professionals they do have on staff and sought to soothe the hearing loss, wine issues and timing with a courtesy desert offering. My wife was more distressed than myself - a rare occurrence!

“Come hungry!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013 via mobile

We stopped in Indianapolis on our way to dropping our son at college and decided our last meal together would be at St. Elmo's. We had an 8:00 reservation but arrived a few minutes early. We had a drink in the bar, served by Mike who started the night off right. Friendly and efficient. The food was outstanding although the portions huge. We left a lot on our plates but only because we were stuffed. If you're in Indy, put it on your list of "must dos".

“Great steakhouse”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

Great wine list. Shrimp cocktail was as good as everyone raves about not for the faint of heart! Had the dry aged ribeye and it was wonderful. Bring lots of $ cause it ain't cheap but it's ok to splurge once and awhile.
