The house cocktail sauce is phenomenal. It's a must-do for horseradish lovers. $3 per shrimp. They're the 20-25/lb size...good sized but not huge by any means.
The service was great. The restaurant and bar were absolutely packed. They knew how to handle a busy night. I appreciate that.
The dining room we were in was extremely loud, too loud for normal conversation. A combination of business dinners and double dates. Pretty standard for a steakhouse.
Both myself and my colleagues had steaks were cooked propertly (both had bone-on new york strips, $60). However they just weren't that tasty. Didn't have that juicy marbled flavor that a great strip has...these were bland. As a steakhouse veteran I know that the restaurant can't control how every particular cow will taste (kind of gross), but both of our steaks had little flavor.
I always get a kick out of these kinds of restaurants. Local institutions, been around forever, but the prices outpace the local economies five-fold...probably why so many reviewers find the restaurant over-priced.
If I wasn't there on an expense account I think you get a better steak at the Captial Grill around the corner.. Go to St. Elmo's and get a shirmp cocktail at the bar or at their sister restaurant next door.
