“And so it goes...”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

Tucked into an historic building and conveniently accessible to downtown Indianapolis stands this quiet little honorarium to one of the 20th Century's great writers. I have included this as a stop on my tour for several interested parties (see Circle City Tours). It is a pleasant surprise for visitors and local residents alike. The staff regale guests with wonderful stories about Kurt Vonnegut and the ample collection of his personal items. And if one is unfamiliar with this author and his works, this is an excellent introduction.

“For present and future fans”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

The Vonnegut Library is a trove of artifacts, books and art that draws a fascinating crowd. As one might expect, Vonnegut fans are intelligent and politically passionate, and the conversations you may be privy to are well worth the trip. KV's typewriter, glasses and Pall Malls are on display, as is his Purple Heart. There's also a sizable collection of art influenced by his writing which gives the experience a lovely sense of living history.

One of the best parts of working at the Vonnegut Library is the conversations that take place here. Thanks for visiting and taking the time to write a review!

“Spend a few hours here”
Reviewed December 24, 2013

This museum is only two rooms, but you can spend an hour or two exploring everything. We went on a Tuesday afternoon and there were only a handful of other visitors.

My kids were fascinated by the replica of Kurt's typewriter which they were allowed to type on. However, there isn't a lot available for kids to do besides the typewriter, so I wouldn't plan on bringing them along unless they are a bit older. There is also a large collection of books which you can browse through that are supposed to be influenced by Vonnegut--I was able to find a few books that looked interesting to pick up later.

The guide was very knowledgeable and talked with us for a quite a bit. There was also a computer where you could learn more about Kurt's life and works.

This place is definitely worth a visit if you have read any Vonnegut or just like books.

“Small Museum for Vonnegut Fans”
Reviewed September 17, 2013

I've read a few of Vonnegut's novels and short story collections, and this museum was less than a mile from my hotel (Hyatt Regency). There's not a lot here--they have Vonnegut's typewriter, a few pieces of art featuring him, a collection of his books, a recreation of his office, and a few personal items including his Purple Heart. There's also a small gift shop with copies of his books and the usual souvenirs (T-shirts, magnets, etc.)
It's free, and can easily be seen in less than half an hour. They also have two interactive exhibits--videos (though I couldn't hear what was being said, the volume was too low) and a computer with information on Vonnegut. They offer free tours, but there isn't much information provided for self-guided tours. You'd need to be a Vonnegut fan to appreciate this museum, it didn't seem to me to be intended for the average tourist. But still a nice stop if you're in the area.

“Literature Fans Must Visit”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

This small library and museum is really worth the visit. You'll still enjoy it, even if you haven't read many (or any) of his novels--hopefully you'll be inspired to do so after visiting.
