“Great Memorial to the "Hoosier Poet"”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

This museum (located in Indianapolis, not Greenfield) has maintained the orginal funishing of the home when Riley lived there. In addition to being a treat for literature buffs, it's a beautiful example of the style and interior design of the time. The tour guide Chris was particularly good, full of tidbits about the author and his fame. It was a fun visit and I felt like I learned so much!

“Great museum”
Reviewed April 11, 2014

James Whitcomb Riley has always been my favorite poet, it was neat to finally see his boyhood home. This review is for his boyhood home in Greenfield, Indiana, not for the his home in Lockerbie Square in Indianapolis, like most reviews and all the pictures are from. The rooms are beautifully preserved and very nice for the time, his father was a lawyer after all. You can many inspirations for his most famous poems, especially in Little Orphant Annie. It is a wonderful house to see. Next door in another historical home is the Riley Museum, with exhibits on his career and life. Also see some other Riley related sites in Greenfield like the Hancock County Courthouse, with artwork and a statue of him outside and Riley Park, which is the Old Swimmin' Hole.

“Perfectly preserved”
Reviewed September 7, 2012

The home was so impressive! Every detail has been cherished as it was preserved. The furniture, the wall hangings, the wall treatments, the lighting, the dishes, the banisters, the fireplaces and all the decorative touches make a statement .... CLASS. The tour was top notch and all three guides (first floor, second floor and kitchen) were terrific. It was easy to feel as if I had stepped back to another era of manners, standards and expectations. Mr. Riley's presence is felt everywhere. I would have paid 20 $ for the tour, instead of the meager 4 $ charged.
