Owner description: Explore one of Indianapolis' top attractions The Indiana State Museum in White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis is the place to go to uncover Indiana’s secrets. The museum houses exhibits on science, art, culture and history of Indiana from prehistoric times up to the present day. The museum provides stunning views and architecture, making it a great venue for weddings, special events or meetings. Home to the famous L.S. Ayres Tea Room restaurant, the Indiana Store gift shop, and the IMAX Theater, Indiana’s largest movie screen.

The museum is a great facility. I took my 9 year old niece and 11 year old nephew - both had a great time. Very nice IMAX theater.

My father and I recently stopped by the Museum while in Indianapolis, and we were both very impressed by a fun museum.

The museum gives an interesting take on the history of Indiana, starting at the very begining, with the Eath itself. The early stages are heavy on geology and archaeology, gradually building through the years and into the era of man. The second floor is a more standard history of the state itself, moving through the colonial era and 19th century and into the Industrial Revolution and finally the cultural history of the 20th century.

Fascinating place. Highly recommended for history buffs.

Lots of interesting history on display. Some exhibits were more on the boring side (as in any museum), but overall it was a great experience. We were there last year during the "odd Indiana" exhibit, and it was the highlight of our tour!

If you want to know pretty much all about Indiana in a day (or a very hurried afternoon), visit the Indiana State Museum. Located next to the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, the ISM has exhibits that depict the history of Indiana and the life of its residents (famous and not-so famous). Also has a terrific gift/book store, an IMAX Theatre and the LS Ayres Tea Room (just plan to have lunch there and enjoy the Velvet Chicken Soup). The Indiana Central Canal (better known now as the "Canal Walk") is behind the Museum and on the opposite side is the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial.

Staff were friendly and helpful. Exhibits were well described and easy to see. The cafe was ok but no English black tea! The Imax cinema was worth visiting.
