Description: It’s commonly thought that you know you’ve found your life’s calling if you’d do your job for free. Chef Steven J. Oakley personifies that idea. His career began at age 16 when he offered his services to a suburban Chicago restaurant for free: “I just wanted to work, I wanted to learn,” says Oakley. That emphasis on hard work and continual learning has culminated in Chef Oakley arriving at the top of his profession in Indianapolis. That structured education didn’t temper his need to learn from other chefs in other kitchens and he spent many weekends traveling to New York City to work in some of the most prestigious restaurants in the country, including The Park Avenue Café and Lutece—for free of course. He spent summers back in Chicago where he worked at the famous Charlie Trotter’s. Following a brief stint at the Scottsdale Princess Resort in Arizona, Chef Oakley returned home to Chicago where he worked for another landmark restaurant, Printer’s Row, and again, Charlie Trotter’s.

Amazing presentation and incredible food. Best restaurant in Indy IMO. Chef Oakley prepares a great variety of very fresh entrees. Staff is excellent. Try to get the Chef's table for a view of the kitchen. Can hold 4 comfortably, 6 is a bit tight. Only 2 settings for that table. Enjoy!

Very nice tables and reasonable noise level. Menu is eclectic and offers some great and different taste sensations. Well done!

We took a large group and had a special night from start to finish. There were 12 of us and they seated us at a large square table instead of a long table. This enabled us to share with the whole party instead of just the people seated next to or across from us. The menu is unique and interesting. My advice is to be brave and go out of your comfort zone. Suckling Pig appetizer, Toad in a Hole salad, and several entrees were excellent. The meatloaf was great, as was the pork loin and spare ribs. Don't overlook the sides! The roasted brussel sprouts and the mac and cheese were big hits with our whole party. Desserts were good and, again creative: first time to have bacon ice cream! As others have stated, great service, and fairly pricey but worth it for a special evening.

I must admit I have driven by this place hundreds of times and finally decided to go. We made reservations with another couple and were immediately pleased with the ambience. Friendly wait staff were efficient and kept drinks full. I must admit, this was the most artistic restaurant in town with respect to the food presentation. The dishes were imaginatively designed and and quite unique. This would not matter if the food was substandard but this was not the case. I had the filet mignon and loved it and my lovely wife had the 4 meat meatloaf and she enjoyed it immensely. Our guests also raved and all agreed that a return visit was in the cards. Dessert was no different and we had the banana cheesecake and it was stupendous. The best cheesecake I can remember. The banana flavor simply exploded. The coffee was delicious.

Oakleys is consistently excellent, with interesting and innovative food. It's pricey, and reasonable serving size, so if you want to stuff yourself, go elsewhere.
