Description: It’s commonly thought that you know you’ve found your life’s calling if you’d do your job for free. Chef Steven J. Oakley personifies that idea. His career began at age 16 when he offered his services to a suburban Chicago restaurant for free: “I just wanted to work, I wanted to learn,” says Oakley. That emphasis on hard work and continual learning has culminated in Chef Oakley arriving at the top of his profession in Indianapolis. That structured education didn’t temper his need to learn from other chefs in other kitchens and he spent many weekends traveling to New York City to work in some of the most prestigious restaurants in the country, including The Park Avenue Café and Lutece—for free of course. He spent summers back in Chicago where he worked at the famous Charlie Trotter’s. Following a brief stint at the Scottsdale Princess Resort in Arizona, Chef Oakley returned home to Chicago where he worked for another landmark restaurant, Printer’s Row, and again, Charlie Trotter’s.

Chef Oakley and his team are amazing from start to finish. Wish I could eat there every day of the week!

If you are someone who enjoys painstakingly pretty food, who really does not like to eat a lot or you are not really hungry when you go out , this is your kind of place! Having visited several times, I still don't see what the hype is about. One of my friends loves the place and thinks they have great food, which is why I have gone somewhere I really don't like multiple times. The food is good, unique, but very small, and expensive for what you get. For $9.25 for a salad, I do expect more than two 1/2 cuts out of a head of lettece laid on a plate and decorated. The vegetable plate, although good, the mushroom custard was a little weird, looks like a plate of 4 hors'doeuvres. The vegetable lasagna, on the plate was made with polenta and was a 1" x 2" square - really! Salmon entrees was $29.95 and was two small pieces of fish with other food decorating the plate. Desserts are strange - a combination of various odd things - carmel corn sprinkled on made to order brownie - which although good, did not have a lot of flavor, and a tiny little scoop of peanut butter ice cream -$8.75. For $160 we had 3 appetizers, a vegetable plate & salmon entree, a salad, two cocktails and two desserts. Our friend had two appetizers for her dinner, and they did not even comp her dessert to her for her birthday! I think the chef likes to use unconventional foods together to create his dishes - so you end up paying a lot of money for someone else to play with the food on your plate, rather than you. .

Steven Oakley is the best chef in town. Since Dunville left Meridian he may be the only chef in town. Everything he serves is amazing. Ocean Prime may have the service and decor, but Oakley's has the food.

We have gone to the MotoGP races (from Miami, FL) in August for the last four years. We make it a point to drive North and have dinner at least one while there. Excellent food and great services.

Fantastic dinning experience. A culinary joy to experience with fresh ingredients and a daring flare. Try the pasta 'Fettuccini" with the chicken avocado meat balls. Fantastic!
