“Great place to visit”
Reviewed June 1, 2014

Great view of downtown Indy from the top of the Monument. One can walk up but we didn't have time and we had someone who was claustraphobic...note that if you take the elevator, you still have to climb 3 narrow staircases to the top. The monument is terrific...there were 3 weddings there taking photographs on such a beautiful day!

“Beautiful monument”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

You could spend hours enjoying the beauty of the sculptures on the outside of the monument. Inside the Lilly Civil War Museum adds to the wonder of this Indianapolis gem. Great for history, photography, people watching, etc. I always take visitors here.

“Impressive”
Reviewed May 17, 2014 via mobile

It is in the central of the city. You can see the whole view of the city when you are on the top. It will be good exercise to climb all the way up.

“Monument connects war stricken ancestors to all of us.”
Reviewed May 17, 2014

If you have an ancestor known to be in the Civil War of the United States--or not--this monument will help you understand a time when the states weren't so united. There are bricks embedded around the memorial with name and info of deceased veterans from Indiana and commissioned by the citizens of Indiana. The soldiers and sailors monument marks the center of the city and is well worth visiting if you are in town doing whatever. It is within walking distance of many great restaurants, stores, etc. If you have kids with you, there is a top notch candy store right on the circle. I would also recommend visiting the Indiana War Memorial just North of the circle.

“Must see”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

Its worth paying the $2 adult and $1 admission to use the elevator to get to the top of the monument. The view was amazing. If you don't like tight space though, admire this monument from ground level as the elevator could only fit maybe 3-4 people in it and the stairwells were very tight.
