We took a friend of ours to monument circle to relax after lunch at Harry & Izzy's. Then we decided to get the view of the city. We spent the $2 for adults and $1 for the child to ride the elevator to the top. 331 stairs doesn't sound like a lot but having made that trek one other time spend the $2. If you do make the climb the stairs are numbered which discouraged us a little as we had been climbing for a while and we are only at stair #123. Once you get to the top you have a great view of the city. We showed up in the early afternoon and it wasn't too crowded nor was it very hot which was great considering it was nearly 95 outside. This is one of the must do's in Indianapolis along with going to the speedway.

I have lived in Indiana most of my life, and didn't know there was a museum in the basement of Monument Circle! It's small...but good!

Despite what you might think of the design (from a critical, architectural view), this is literally the heart of Indianapolis, hard to imagine downtown without it. The extensive statues, carvings, and ornament are now priceless relics of the past but remain a tribute to those soldiers and sailors. The Liberty statue and observation deck were restored recently.

Something to visit while in downtown Indianapolis. It is on the circle for all visitors to see, tour when open, and just look at from a distance. Decorated every Christmas with thousands of lights from the top to the floor of the monument.
