I am an amateur Civil War buff and went to the museum on the advice of my cousin. We ended up spending a lot of time there. The exhibits were excellent. The setting downtown underneath the monument is really unique. I enjoyed it thoroughly

The center of Indianapolis is honored to have a magnificent memorial to Soliders and Sailors at its heart. The sculptures, busts and fountains that surround the monument are just as impressive as the view from the top.

A small gift shop is featured and there is a $2.00 charge for the elevator ride to the top. The 330+/- steps to the pinnacle are free, but I decided that $2.00 was a small price to pay compared to that!

The view of downtown Indianapolis and especially the nearby Indiana War Memorial, is very nice. The observation area is completely enclosed by glass. Enjoy!

We have been many times over the last 5 years have always enjoyed it. It's a great place to take kids, free, and you can enjoy the Circle while you're there.

We decided the 383 steps might be beyond our senior capabilities, and chose the elevator. The stairs are metail, steep and numerous, the elevator is $2.00 per person. Once at the top, you get a 360 * view of the beautiful city of Indianapolis.
The exterior sculptures are very touching. The museum itself is well done, comprehensible forages 8 and above, and concise in presentation. We were very happy we took the time o visit.
Be aware of the hours of operation. In the winter/early spring, itis not open every day.

This is the best Museum in Indy -- surprize! And it won't wear you out because it's small and concise. Free, too. And you get to see the foundations of the Soldier's and Sailor's Monument as a bonus. Thanks to Col. Lilly -- he could put a case shell at your feet from a mile away there, Reb.
