“Indy Hostel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

I was in Indianapolis for a conference. The Indy Hostel is much nicer than the very expensive hotels downtown. There were a lot of people at the hostel that were also attending the conference which led to some great discussions at night. Also, when traveling alone it is a great way to meet new people from around the world. They have a fully stocked kitchen and it was kind of a community cook off at night as everyone prepared their own food. At night everyone was respectfully quiet and sleeping was easy. An overall great experience for a cheap price.

I love staying at the Indy Hostel. I would recommend it to everyone. very clean, homey, friendly, just a really wonderful atmosphere. close to Broadripple, the staff is great. it is a very quaint place with a cute little patio and yard to hang out in. rooms are very colorful.

Room Tip: I stayed in a private room with a bathroom twice, last time I stayed private but shared bathroom...

If you'd like a homey atmosphere, the hostel is the place to go. It's also a nice mix of hippie and hipster with opportunities for live music, yoga and art around the building. I was excited to not have the cut-and-dry hotel bed. I also did get to meet other young travelers, even a couple non-Americans. GREAT experience for the price. Definitely no frills (bring your own food and toiletries!), but the facilities were bright and clean, and as other travelers said, the communal areas are a nice way to meet people. (Cook your own breakfast and make enough to share.)

I was driving cross-country to go to grad school, and Indy Hostel was on my way through the midwest. I very much liked the converted-home set-up, which is much cozier and comfortable than the bigger hostels/hotels in the city. Everything was clean and well organized and inviting. The property is located right next to an urban trail that goes into the part of the area full of shops, restaurants, Target, etc. I was provided with maps and recommendations for food and entertainment. Everything was great!

Had a blast staying here, the staff is super helpful/friendly and it has a nice social atmosphere. Also has pretty much all you could want out of a hostel. The neighborhood is decent, the bathrooms always seemed to be free(during a busy weekend no less) and the kitchen was a nice place to make and enjoy meals. Keep up the great work guys!

Room Tip: I stayed in the back with my own tent but used the common areas of the hostel(kitchen/bath/living/co...

Pros:
Nice place, home like, many chill out areas inside and outside the house, close to Monon, bikes to rent, laundry room.
Good place if you plan to cook your own food, 2 fridges and big kitchen.
Probably cheapest place to stay in Indy.
Cons:
Far from downtown, which makes it expensive at night because last bus from downtown departs at 21:20 (too early maybe), taxi from downtown around $18-20.
Lockers are not included in the fee and are quite small and located far from your bed. No need to worry about your belongings safety anyways.

We have never stayed at a hostel before and the Indy Hostel was perfect!!! We will stay again next year when we come back for the beer fest. The staff was great, helped us with a taxi and directions. Nice full kitchen, even had a Kurig! I love the fact that they are earth friendly. My husband and I where older than everyone else there but we were not treated any different. We will be back and I will recommend them to all of our friends if they stay up that way.
