“A must see”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Even if you don't care for military history, you need to go inside this magnificent structure. There is a lot of history and memorabilia from WWI forward. Go upstairs to the shrine and make sure you ask to see the water fountain. The volunteers are very helpful and informative. We didn't even know about this place until we stumble across it on our way somewhere else. The entire plaza from the Soldier/Sailor Monument to the Library is a great exploration. At the War memorial, make sure you go upstairs to see the Shrine.

This attraction is perfectly awesome to see from the outside. The structure has to be seen from all sides as not one side is the same. The fountains are very relaxing. Unfortunately we were unable to go inside as it was the 4th of July and wasn't open. Several of us were disappointed that it wasn't open and we had not seen anything posted online or in other resources that it was closed on holidays. One added attraction that day for us was that there was a wedding taking place at the Memorial and they upheld the theme of the day, red-white and blue. The down side was that there was some sort of protest starting and we saw some handguns on people so we got out of there really fast. But parking was available right on the circle so we were able to leave quickly.

“Don't miss the Shrine inside”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

We walked around the beautiful neoclassical style memorial (WWI). When we were about to leave we came across a worker who greeted us and asked if we have seen inside of the memorial. He told us that the Shrine is not to be missed. He was so right. After walking around the inside of the museum which itself was well done, we walked up the stairs to go to the shrine. On either side of the stairs, there are thousands of names of war veterans. What an effort to display all the names! Now you see the Shrine in the center of a big hall surrounded by huge pillars, blue lights and a huge star of Destiny. Totally SERENE.

A picturesque circle surrounded by horses and carriages awaiting people who want to tour downtown or sit and listen to one of the many pianos scattered around the circle. We visited at sunset on our first evening in the city and it was beautiful. The fountains and statues are beautiful albeit a strong reminder of the many who fell in the various wars. We didn't have a chance to visit the museums, but we did enjoy walking around the memorial.

Nothing to dislike about the museums in Indy...Must see for anyone! We toured all the military museums and monuments downtown and were blown away by how beautiful they are and honor our vets with dignity
